Pitt-Bradford vocal arts ensemble to perform spring concert

BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford vocal arts ensemble will hold a spring concert at noon April 14 in the KOA Electronics Lobby of Blaisdell Hall.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, is part of the university’s Spectrum series. A light lunch will be served as part of the event.

“The program is going to be shaped around ‘youth and experience,’ featuring songs about the experience of first love, adventure and what it’s like to grow older,” said Dr. Joshua Groffman, assistant professor of music and director of the group.

“We’ll do a mixture of pieces from different styles: A Simon and Garfunkel tune, several folk songs from the American West, an old hymn from the American shape note tradition and a 16th century madrigal that’s basically the Renaissance equivalent of a doo-wop tune – lots of ‘na na nas.'”

Solos will be performed by Jerry Clark, an economics major from Gastonia, N.C.; Ariel Defrank, a biology major from Lewis Run; Lanessa Hickman, a biology and psychology major from Lees Summit, Mo.; Alex Miinte, a criminal justice major from Randolph, N.Y.; and Allison Pryslinski, a hospitality management major from Lake City. Piano accompaniment will be provided by Manu Gajanan, an interdisciplinary arts major from Bradford, who will also perform a solo.
