Pitt-Bradford to present bedtime puppet show of ‘Goodnight Moon’ and ‘Runaway Bunny’

1pitt-goodnightmoon_optBRADFORD, Pa. — The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will present a snuggly performance of Margaret Wise Brown’s classic children’s books “Goodnight Moon” and “The Runaway Bunny.”

The puppet shows will be presented at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Bromeley Family Theater in Blaisdell Hall. Tickets are $8 and include a pajama party that begins at 6:30 p.m. complete with cookies and milk. The shows are recommended for children in preschool through fourth grade, but will enchant all ages with a mix of puppetry, black light and music.

This is the second time Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia has visited Pitt-Bradford. Last year’s production of Eric Carle’s “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” was well-received by hundreds of children squirming with delight beneath the black lights.

Few writers have been as attuned to the concerns and emotions of childhood as Margaret Wise Brown (1910-1952). Brown, a former teacher, believed that very young children could be fascinated by the simple pleasures of the world around them.

Few people had previously attempted to write specifically for children aged two to five, and Brown created some of the most enduring and beloved children’s books of all time as well as developed the concept of the first durable board book.

Illustrator Clement Hurd (1908-1988) graduated from Yale University and studied painting in Paris in the 1930s.

“Goodnight Moon” is a celebration of familiar nighttime rituals, while “The Runaway Bunny” is a tale of leaving home and reassuring responses from a loving mum.

For more information or to purchase tickets in advance, contact the Bromeley Family Theater box office at 814-362-5113. The box office will be open from 11:30 a.m. until show time on the day of the show.
