Speed Display Sign in Sergeant Township

Mount Jewett, PA – Motorists traveling through the village of Clermont, will be reminded to obey the posted speed limit on Route 2001. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation recently placed a radar-controlled speed display sign south of the Route 146 intersection, to aid in curbing speeding, a common type of aggressive driving.

The sign faces northbound traffic and utilizes radar to determine the speeds of oncoming traffic. Vehicle speeds are then posted on the lighted section of the sign. The posted speed limit in this area of Route 2001 is 35 miles per hour.

PennDOT placed the sign in response to a request from Seneca Resources Corporation. The speed display sign will remain on location, facing northbound traffic for up to four weeks. After that time the speed display sign will face southbound traffic on the opposite side of the road for up to four additional weeks.

Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of crashes and fatalities in Pennsylvania. Other aggressive driving behaviors include running stop signs or red lights, passing illegally and tailgating.

Aggressive driving behaviors were listed as a crash cause in 48 percent of McKean County crashes in 2014.
