Speed Display Sign in Hamilton Township

Kane, PA – Motorists through the Kinzua scenic reservoir area of McKean County, will be reminded to obey the posted speed limit as they travel on Route 321.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation recently placed a radar-controlled speed display sign at the southern entrance of Kinzua reservoir, close to Paul’s Trading Post, to aid in curbing speeding, a common type of aggressive driving.

The sign faces northbound traffic and utilizes radar to determine the speeds of oncoming traffic. Vehicle speeds are then posted on the lighted section of the sign. The posted speed limit in this area of Route 321 is 35 miles per hour.

PennDOT placed the sign in response to a request from the office of Pennsylvania State Senator Joseph Scarnati. The speed display sign will remain on location for up to four weeks.

Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of crashes and fatalities in Pennsylvania. Other aggressive driving behaviors include running stop signs or red lights, passing illegally and tailgating.

Aggressive driving behaviors were listed as a crash cause in 48 percent of McKean County crashes in 2014.
