Kenneth Stroup

Kenneth Marvin Stroup, Sr., loving husband and father, “Marvin” (as most have known him); died peacefully at home in Mt. Jewett. He was born on Dec. 29, 1934 in Westline, the son of the late Daniel and Vesta (Queen) Stroup. He worked for the railroad prior to marrying Carol Raught on Oct. 4, 1952 in Port Allegany. They were married for 62 years.
Marvin worked in a tannery and was a milk carrier for a local dairy. He also served as a Merchant Seaman on the Great Lakes.
Marvin and Carol moved to California in 1957 and he became a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of American and worked in construction until they returned to McKean County in 1978. Later he worked at Kane Hardwood sawmill and eventually, as a contractor, he built many conventional and log homes in the area.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Kenneth (Carolyn) Stroup Jr. of Mt. Jewett and Norman (Vicki) Stroup of Alabama; Five grandchildren; Seven Great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thursie Rigard of Rustburg, VA and Shirley Whiteman of Rixford; and one brother Daniel (Arlene) Stroup of Warren, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Gayle Stroup; an infant daughter, Carol K. Stroup; six brothers and two sisters.
Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home in Mt. Jewett on Saturday (June 13) from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday (June 14) at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce Kumher, pastor of the Kushequa Union Church, officiating. Burial will be in Nebo cemetery.
The family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 2 W Crescent Park, Warren, PA 16365
