Champlin to review book for Friends of Hanley Library

BRADFORD, Pa. Isabelle Champlin, a retired professor of archaeology at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, next week will review “Wanderlust: A History of Walking” by Rebecca Solnit.

The program will take place 7 p.m. Tuesday (April 21) in the Mukaiyama University Room in the Frame-Westerberg Commons. The program is sponsored by the Friends of Hanley Library and is free and open to the public.

Solnit’s book has been called “a delightful and mind-expanding look at one of the activities that makes us human.” Solnit creates a fascinating portrait of the range of possibilities presented by walking, and explores how people walk for pleasure as well as for political, spiritual, aesthetic and social meaning.

Champlin’s presentation will also include an account of her recent pilgrimage in Spain along the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, also known as the Way of St. James.
