Jay Depto


Jay A. Depto, 52, of 148 Bliss Hill Rd. Ludlow, died Friday (Feb. 20) at his residence, following a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 19, 1963 in Kane, the son of the late Edward and Dona (Martin) Depto. On Oct. 12, 1985 in Kane he married Sabrina Vanerstrom, who survives.

Jay had worked as a self-employed logger for many years and also as a farmer. He was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church and also a member of several different bass clubs. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed doing these and other activities with his family. He was also a heart transplant recipient, which he received in 2003.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Edana Depto and two sons, Logan and Evan Depto, all at home; two brothers, Paul and Randy (Mary) Depto, both of Ludlow; five sisters, Helen (Andy) Kartez of Ludlow, Susan Depto or Kane, Elda Depto of Latrobe, Jane Depto of Johnsonburg and Lisa (Steve) Olson of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 at St. Callistus Catholic Church in Kane, with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Gibbs Hill Cemetery.
