Important Information for Bradford City Water Authority Customers

alertFrom State Rep. Martin Causer: The City of Bradford remains under a state of emergency as a result of yesterday’s water main break. I recently completed a conference call with state, county and local officials and would like to share some important information.

If you are in need of water, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) is coordinating delivery of pallets of bottled water and at least four water buffaloes to the area. The agency has also worked with Walmart and Tops, which are arranging for emergency supplies of water to be delivered to their stores in Bradford. People who are unable to or obtain water are encouraged to call the City of Bradford Central Fire Station at 814-368-3141.

If you are in need of shelter, one has been established at Sawyer Evangelical Church, located at the intersection of South Kendall Ave and Looker Mountain Trail. American Red Cross officials say the shelter can house 50-100 people.

PEMA has launched a partial activation of the state’s Emergency Operation Center and a team of emergency management officials is on the way to assist with the coordination of efforts. A local command center has been established to further assist in the response.

The Bradford City Water Authority has been working around the clock to replace the 24” main that broke yesterday. Because of the break, the city’s water storage tanks are registering as empty. Authority officials say it could be at least a week before water service is fully restored.

If you have still have running water, make every effort to conserve, as the city’s supply is seriously depleted. A boil-water advisory remains in place in Bradford, Bradford Township, Foster Township, Lafayette Township and Lewis Run. Water used for cooking, making ice, washing food or brushing teeth should be boiled for at least one minute before use or bottled water should be used.
