Former executive and federal inmate to talk at Pitt-Bradford on ‘insider’s view’ of prison reform

BRADFORD, Pa. – Fran Flood, a former CEO who served federal time for white-collar crime, will give a talk titled “From Corporate Suite to Federal Prison: An Insider’s View of the American Criminal Justice System” next week.

The presentation will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30 in the Lester and Barbara Rice auditorium in Fisher Hall. There will be a question-and-answer session following the formal presentation.

Flood has worked in corporate America holding a variety of positions, including president and chief executive officer of several corporations. She was also the founder of various companies. In addition, she has been a lecturer in worldwide venues receiving several awards, including the Entrepreneur of the Year award.

After resigning as CEO of ClearOne Communications in 2003, she earned a master’s in theology and has served domestic violence and hospice communities. She is currently completing her doctorate in pastoral community counseling and working on several books.

Beginning in 2010, she served 3 ½ years in the Federal Prison Camp in Alderson, W.Va., on convictions of conspiracy, making false statements, securities fraud and perjury.

During the presentation, Flood will discuss the phenomenon of mass incarceration in America and how it needs to be examined through a “lived experience” to understand its nature and impact on those affected and on society as a whole.

Pitt-Bradford’s Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences is sponsoring the presentation.
