Smith, Jr., Ronald J.

Ronald J. Smith, Jr., 54, of 6 Wetmore Trail near Kane, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, September 2, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born June 18, 1960 in Brookville, he was the son of Ronald J. and Patricia R. Riggs Smith. On June 2, 1979 in Kane, he married Lisa A. Bauerle, who survives.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Ron was a journeyman machinist for the Carbide Graphite Group in St. Marys for 20 years. Pursuing a life-long passion for working with children, he continued his education at the Univ. of Pittsburgh at Bradford where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in History and was a member of Pi Gamma Mu. He went on to earn his Masters in Education from Gannon University, and a Certification for Educational Leadership from Drexel University. For the past 10 years he has taught History at Floyd Fretz Middle School in Bradford, PA.
Ron was a member of Kane Lodge # 566 F&AM in Kane, where was the Worshipful Master and served as secretary for two years, and belonged to VFW Post #1132 in Kane. An avid fan of baseball, football and wrestling, he had been a football and wrestling coach at Fretz Middle School, belonged to the Quarterback Club, and Wrestling Club, both in Kane, and coached the Kane Area Little League.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters; Jenelle Kerr of Greensboro, NC and Jackie Nelson of Ludlow; a son, Cory Smith of San Diego, CA; his father, Ron Smith and his wife, Anne, of Kane; and two brothers, Tim Smith and Rod Smith, both of Kane. Five grandchildren; Trenton, Grace, Nolan, Mara, and Bennett also survive.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00, where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:00. A memorial service will then be held at 4:00 on Friday at the funeral home with the rev. Glenda Buonanducci, Presbyterian Lay Pastor, officiating.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the, or to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, PA 16505.
