John P. Straneva, 86, of 25 Water Street, Ludlow, passed away Wednesday (December 11, 2013) at his residence.
Born January 8, 1927, in Ludlow, he was a son of the late Stephen and Katherine Patilla Straneva. On December 3, 1960, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Sheffield, he married Patrika M. Erikson who survives.
During World War II, Mr. Straneva served in the Merchant Marines. After fifty years of service, he retired as a foreman from National Forge.
Mr. Straneva was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Sheffield and was a member and past Grand Knight of Carl L. Lippert Knights of Columbus Council # 715. He also was a member of James Uber American Legion Post 489 in Ludlow.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Stephen Straneva, John Straneva and Christopher Straneva; two grandsons, Timothy Straneva and Max Straneva; and a brother, Edward Straneva.
Preceding him in death, besides his parents, were a brother, Joseph Straneva and three sisters, Mary Nicholas, Anne Misulich and Rose Kashmer.
Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Saturday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Sheffield. Burial will be at St. Callistus Cemetery in Kane.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
