Kenneth M. Johnson

Kenneth M. Johnson, 89, of Smethport, formerly of Clermont, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the Lakeview Senior Care and Living Center, Smethport. He was born on September 11, 1924 in Cyclone, a son of the late Edwin and Nina Cheeseman Johnson.

He attended grade school in Cyclone and graduated from the Bradford Area High School in 1942. On April 24, 1948 he married Charlotte Fern of Cyclone who survives. He entered the United States Army in March 1943 and served in the European Theatre of Operations with the 556th Anti-Aircraft Battalion as a machine gunner.  While serving he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

He then served in the Army Reserves and the National Guard until January 1961 at which time he was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in Clearfield as a Construction Inspector and a Permits Inspector from 1963 until his retirement in 1990.

In addition to his wife of 65 years, Charlotte Johnson, Smethport, he is also survived by three sons, David (Sally) Johnson, Daniel (Shelby) Johnson, both of Smethport, Robert (Erin) Johnson, Hazelhurst, three daughters, Bonita (Paul) Kiser, Manassas, VA, Gloria Lloyd, Pittsburgh, Tina (Leon) Diehl, Jim Thorpe, one brother, Elton (Joanne) Johnson, Cyclone, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one daughter, Marlene Mack, one sister, Artis Pais and three brothers, Clifford Johnson, Ronald Johnson and Rex Johnson. At the family’s request there will be no visitation.

Friends are invited to attend graveside military honors at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Clermont Cemetery.

The family has asked that memorial contributions in his memory be made to the Eldred World War II Museum, 201 Main St., Eldred, PA  16731.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Mascho Funeral Home, Inc.
