Letter to the Editor:
Many of the people of Bradford are so disappointed with the clumsy performance of Mayor
Tom Riel that it's time for a change. Perhaps a resignation should be in order.
He attacks the Pennsylvania State Police with Gestapo tactics when they want drunk
drivers off the road even if it means chasing drivers into the City. It's a disgraceful
and unwarranted attack. Is there something the Mayor wants to hide?
Another dreadful miscue was his support of the so-called "reality show"
produced by Luca Palanca and his unnecessary remarks about Little Chicago producing dates.
We are told he spends much of his time at the Meadville home of Palanca. How does this
help city business get done?
The city and its businesses lost thousands of dollars in revenue when Little Chicago
decided to film its new documentary in Olean and the city lost public relations time on
TV.
I and many others still have faith that a Prohibition movie will come to Bradford. It
will take time, as anyone who follows the ups and downs of moviemaking knows. The question
now is: how much will be filmed in Bradford?
The mayor practically chased Little Chicago out of the town when it wanted to film its
documentary here. His remarks about the future of the movie didn't help. He should realize
the production company spent thousands of dollars in the city for the past year and a
half, and employs people in Bradford even today. It's my understanding that one full
documentary was filmed here and the other one was going to be, but he wouldn't help the
production company.
However, he goes out of his way to praise the reality show, a show that spent nothing
in the city, it only used the mayor for a publicity stunt.
However, the mayor is continuing to spew poison against "Little Chicago" and
may force them to leave Bradford. Like we need that.
It's no secret Bradford's economic condition is on life support. We need to work hard
to reverse that. We need a mayor to go after revenue and not discourage it.
The best news Bradford could hope for is the Mayor Tom Riel steps down and perhaps
tries an acting career in Meadville.
