Phyllis E. Nelson, 91, formerly of 110 Wetmore Avenue, Kane, joined her Lord and Savior early Saturday morning, August 25, 2012 at The Lutheran Home at Kane.

Born July 10, 1921 in Kane, she was the daughter of Edward R. and Rose M. Grinnell Eckborg. She married Stanley Sowa on November 20, 1954, who died in 1978; then married the rev. Richard Nelson on September 20, 1980, who died in 2010.

Mrs. Nelson was a sewing machine operator at Olympic Luggage in Kane for many years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, flower gardening, sewing and crocheting, watching her hummingbirds and studying the word of God.

She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Kane, where she sang in the choir, belonged to the American Baptist Women and the Kings Daughters, was a deaconess and served on various boards and committees.

Surviving are a daughter, Susan (Ray) Kutsch of Ford City; a daughter in law, Mary Jo (Larry) Lamping of Kane; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Joseph and David Kutsch, Amanda Johnson, James, Derek and Matthew Sowa; and six great grandchildren, James, Trenton, Blayne, Ty and Skye Sowa and Jacey Johnson, plus several nieces, nephews and stepchildren.

Preceding her in death, besides her husbands and parents, are a son, James Sowa, brother Paul Eckborg, a sister in infancy, and a stepdaughter, Rebecca Iverson.

Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9, and may attend a funeral service at 11:00 on Wednesday at The First Baptist Church in Kane with the rev. Bob Lynch, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to The First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 257, Kane, PA 16735, or to The Lutheran Home at Kane, 100 Highpoint Drive, Kane.
