Smethport - Irene Weimer, 89, of Farmers Valley, PA passed quietly away on Thursday (July 19, 2012) in her home of 62 years.
She was born January 26, 1923 in Union Twp., a daughter of Charles S. and Besse C. Oaks Fitzsimmons. On April 2, 1943, in Farmers Valley, PA, she married Durward G. Weimer, who passed away on July 11, 2004. It was just after their 61st Anniversary. Mrs. Weimer graduated from the former Union High School in the spring of 1940. Known for her hospitality and gift of story-telling, her home was a place of warmth and comfort to all who stopped by. Her life of service to her Savior, Jesus Christ, was noted by years of Sunday School teaching and youth leadership. In her later years, she faithfully cared for her husband until his home-going in 2004. She enriched the lives of all her family and guests by her wonderful character. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She is survived by three daughters: Judith L. (Raymond) Hendrickson of North Wales, PA, Connie D. (Donald) Munson of Rochester, NY, Carol S. (David) Apgar of Camp Hill, PA one son: Keith G. (Becky) Weimer of Anamosa, IA Nine Grandchildren: Alyson R. (William) Wentz, Todd B. (Betty) Weimer, Lisa L. Hendrickson, Derek C. (Michelle) Weimer, Krisanne C. Weimer, Evelyn S. (Jordan) Pizarro, Geoffrey C. Weavill, Claire E. Weavill, and Philip A. Munson Eight Great Grandchildren: William and Anna Wentz, Kollyn, Elizabeth, and Dru Weimer, Ava and Ronan Pizarro One sister: Marian Lobaugh of Mt. Jewett, PA, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter: Mikayla Weimer in 2004, along with 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. Funeral and committal services will be held on Tuesday, July 24, at 11 A.M., in the Christian Gospel Church of Coleville, with the Rev. Thomas Dunkerton, the Rev. Wilbur Barber, and the Rev. Max Simms, officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials can be made to the Golden Halo Foundation, 1430 Newton, Sidney, NE 69162. The foundation was established in memory of Mikayla Weimer and assists handicapped children and their families with needs not covered by insurance.
