Smethport - Eugene Ronald "Geno" Lewis, 88, of Smethport, died Wednesday (September 12, 2012) in the Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.

He was born Nov 25, 1923 in Gold, PA, a son of the late George C. and Amanda Le-Clare Lewis. On June 16, 1948, in the United Methodist Church of Smethport, he married Winifred R. Reese, who survives.

Mr. Lewis attended Smethport High School and entered the U.S. Army. He was a PFC during World War II, and served from 1943 to 1945. He was wounded in the Anzio, Italy Landing in 1944, for which he received the Purple Heart. He was hospitalized in France and then released to be stationed for duty in a P.O.W. camp (6832nd P.O.W. Adm. Co.) during his remaining European service. Other decorations received during his service career were the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Lewis first worked at Joe's Taylor Shop in Smethport, and then was employed by the Quaker State Oil Refinery in Farmers Valley, PA, until his retirement.

He was a member of the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 and the VFW Smethport Post #2497, both of Smethport, and the United Methodist Church of Smethport.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter: Pamela Wells of Salamanca, NY two sons: Ronald W. "Mike" (Linda) Lewis and Paul J. (Beth) Lewis, both of Smethport, PA 11 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great Grandson, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 sister and 4 brothers.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held Monday, September 17 at 11:00 am from the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sena Kean Manor Activities Department, 17083 Rt. 6, Smethport, PA 16749. Online condolences may be made at www.hartle-tarboxfuneralhomes.com.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., Smethport.
