Cora O. Steele, 79, of 50 Johnson Road, in Wetmore, near Kane, died
Thursday afternoon, December 29, 2011 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born December 10, 1932 in Manorville, she was the daughter of Ray and Helen Cook
Transue. On July 11, 1953 in Kane, she married Richard H. Steele, who died in 2005.
Cora was the head cook at the Kane Area Middle School for twenty-seven years.
She was a member of Tabor Ev. Lutheran Church in Kane, where she belonged to the Altar
Guild, the Funeral Committee, and had sung in the choir. She volunteered at The Lutheran
Home at Kane for 17 years with the activity "Cooking with Cora", and catered the
Emeritus Dinner for over twenty-five years, along with many other events.
Surviving are two daughters, Vickie Chapman of Kane and Elizabeth (Tom) Theobald of
Medina, Ohio; two grandchildren, Stephanie Swanson of Kane and Joshua Black of Medina; and
a great granddaughter, Sophia Cora Swanson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by three brothers, Norris
Ray Transue, Robert Transue and William Transue; and three sisters, Carolyn Jean Transue,
Eleanor Arthurs and Leatrice Wright.
Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane on Monday from 2
to 4 and 7 to 9, and may attend a service at 11:00 on Tuesday at Tabor Lutheran Church
with Pastor Bill Waterman officiating. Interment will follow in Lebanon Cemetery,
Kanesholm.
