Hi All,
I, along with my husband, are thinking of moving to Bradford from New Jersey. We were in the area for a wedding, a few year back and just loved it, along with expenses being cut in half, like property tax etc. We are looking for a less expensive place and less hectic way of life. We are in our 60's so hope there would also be help for seniors, with shoveling snow etc. Would like to know the good, bad and the ugly. Thanks

Hey Nan, welcome aboard! I'm from Jersey too. And a lot of my family (extended and otherwise) live around here as well. Plus, I met others in town from New Jersey.

It's quite a different lifestyle for sure! When you leave the boundaries of New Jersey ... for anywhere else .... expect the intelligence level to drop .... sometimes drastically!

It's a great area if you like the outdoors. But prepare yourselves for small town politics.

It can definitely be a more laid back lifestyle. And like almost anywhere, some people are nice and others, not-so-nice!

Since the University of Pittsburgh is ever expanding in Bradford, the intelligence level is increasing accordingly! Albeit very slowly!

If you are from North Jersey, our refinery should make you feel right at home! LOL!

And because of your age, I'm assuming our school system will have no effect on your decision to move here.

It can best be described as a very expensive system that produces a bunch of underachievers!

What I found very helpful is to associate mostly with people from outside the area.

Unless you like the chain-smoking/druggie/alcoholic lifestyle! If so there are quite a few clubs for you!

And if you fish, our local vacation bureau touts us as "the ultimate fishing destination"! ..... AND we have our very own "Bridge to Nowhere".

Welcome!

Hi Stony,
Thanks for the reply. Would you mind if I ask a few questions about Bradford? We have visited the area but to live there is another question.

Hey Nanrose....We had some friends move from Bradford to NJ in 1985. They moved back to Bradford 4 years ago, and are LOVING being back! While Oaklyn NJ offered more in retail, entertainment, and jobs, it just didn't compare to green mountains, fresh air, and a layed back lifestyle. Good luck!

Stony is correct, when he moved here, our average IQ level dropped noticeably! Now if you will excuse me, i know there is a rerun of 'Jersey Shore' on somewhere...

I just have to laugh when I hear other guys make fun of Snookie. Some of these same guys would hop on her in a second if they had the chance! I've met a few girls right in Bradford who were "Snookie-esque".

Yes, Nan, Bradford has it's share of characters too! It's not just a Jersey thing!

Wait 'til you meet Hollywood Helen, and a "certain Bradford official"! LOL! "Jersey Shore" has nothing on Bradford!

There you go twisting things! I didn't say I want her .... Just that some others who insult her would do her in a heartbeat given the chance! Besides I've had more than my share of Jersey girls! LOL!
