Does anybody seriously believe that when this outside group from Erie gets their HANDS on Kiwanis Court that they will continue to pay city, county and school taxes "out of the good of their heart"?
You don't think that IF they can stop paying taxes that they WILL stop paying taxes?
This may end up just like the Dingle-berry Commons scheme! Just another large block of property that now pays taxes, not paying taxes any more!
Oh, forgive me .... they might make a very small "payment in lieu of taxes". One percent of what they should be paying perhaps?
We need to let our mayor and city council know that we need MORE PEOPLE PAYING TAXES in this town, not LESS!
We already have a city taxpayer interested in buying Kiwanis Court and keeping it on the tax roles! How great is that? This should be a no-brainier!

Isnt that just the opposite of what you are saying Stony? I believe Kiwanis is currently city owned and tax free, If a private citizen indeed buys it, wont that put it onto the tax rolls?

According to the Era, (again, consider the source!) the Kiwanis Club currently owns Kiwanis Court.
Here is a quote from todays Era:
"According to Bradford City Mayor Tom Riel, property taxes for McKean County, the city and Bradford Area School District combined amount to roughly $36,000. Bauer said he believes HANDS, although a non-profit that would have the option to do otherwise, is looking to keep Kiwanis Court on the tax roll as well".
So if you read "amount to roughly $36,000" and "looking to keep Kiwanis Court on the tax roll" as written, it sure sounds to me like it is currently paying taxes.
And as I understand it, a non-profit has the option to not pay taxes.
I say the Kiwanis Club should do the right thing by Bradford, and sell it to Todd Hennard who will most certainly keep it on the tax roles!
A win-win-win for Bradford all around!
One, the Kiwanis Club gets to do the right thing for Bradford. Two, the ownership stays local. And three, the property pays all the taxes due!
BRADFORD NEEDS MORE TAX REVENUE, NOT LESS!
