With all of the recent talk about the Bill of Rights, or at least a portion of it, I just wanted to take this moment to honor a true civil rights hero .... Happy Martin Luther King Day.

With his, and his thugs, history of violence, that would seem appropriate. His message was peace but his actions were far from it.

Dude! They were black men in the south in the 40's and 50's. They probably all experienced more than their fair share of being beaten by white men! Let them have a chip on their shoulders for Pete's sake!

An elderly black gent from the Bahamas told me of his admiration for MLK. "He was a great man," he said, and went on to explain, "He wasn't just for one or the other, but for everybody." I agreed with him! These polarizing black "leaders" nowadays, especially those who call themselves Christian, are a far cry from the reverend we honor today.

And I don't for a minute believe he had a gang of thugs; not someone who based his whole Civil Rights platform on the example of peace-loving Mahatma Gandhi!

Flashback, you couldn't be more off base. I lived through it. I saw the segregated south. I had friends who feared for their lives. They were white and it wasn't black violence they feared. It was white police officers, who by today's standards were more a mob than professional law enforcement officers. The changes in 50 years are truly amazing and MLK was responsible for much of them.

I'm not off base, but you're off topic. If you want to discuss voilence against minorities in the past I would agree with you. However the topic is MLK.

To ignore the fact that MLK and his supporters used violence while preaching peace is re-writing history. There are many good books on the subject for you to learn from.

It would have just come sooner. There will always be poor people in the world. It's been that way since man existed.
