Sounds like the drunk should have been more responsible with his drinking and he wouldn't have been confused as to which house was his. You can just as easily remove booze from that story with an even better outcome than if you removed the firearm.

Good point JeffT. Here is another good question, "Why is it that no one will say where the school police officer was? All Connecticut public schools are required to have one."

Not sure that all schools in CT are required to have a security officer but if he/she is anything like any other LEO he/she was on the way. The only way to stop these types of shootings is to ahve an armed citizenry. ONLY reaction at the time of the event will stop or curtail deaths. Requiring people to wait for police is endangering the lives of everyone.

There is so much online about the shooting it is difficult to sort through to find out about Ct. SRO's. But I did find this:

Wasn't the shooter in this case part of an armed citizenry?

Sure he was!

Not all armed citizens are peaceful or helpful. They don't always all follow the rules.

This is what happens! This is what happens sometimes when you have a citizen with a gun.

So the logical answer is to put more guns in the hands of someone like this?

Or could it be, the more guns you put in the hands of citizens, the more episodes like this we will have?

There may not be a simple answer.

Not always black and white.

Not as simple as either we all have guns, or none of us have guns.

My gut reaction is, that maybe we have to re-think letting those using psychotropic drugs, buy or own assault rifles!

Can you think of a dumber combination?

Actually, it was his mother who was the armed citizenry. She was an avid target shooter and owned the guns that he used. She was also his first target, shot in her bed. She bears the blame of not having the guns locked well enough so that he could not obtain them.

I really think Stony would like it if we had more rules and regulations, more cumbersom red tape, more agencies and commissions to apply these rules and regulations. The gun police, the fun police, the nature nazis, gestapo, TSA, NSA, the ATF. We need more of this because its not enough of a police state yet. Maybe some 4am house raids? Throw in some random highway "firearm courtesy checkpoints" how about some gun sensing drones. Why not!? Thats the world i want to live in. How about some common sense...? Edit: I no sooner closed this post and opened yahoo news and what headline did i see..? "Obama: 'We can't tolerate this anymore'

The president says he'll do everything in his power to prevent future mass shootings. 'We must change'
Stony says the Dems wont take our guns, the Republicans will. I say the government will take our guns. The parties some of us are clinging to died a long time ago. You dont think the timing of this is a coincidence? Legislation has most likely been drawn up for this already, and has just been waiting for the right crisis to enact it.

No, you people are right. We should just do what the NRA suggests ..... Let anybody who wants to buy an assault rifle and large capacity clip buy them. And use them at will! ...... Good plan.

We live in a country that is legalizing Mexicans, Marijuana, and Gay Marriage, and at the same time taking our guns away! We are all gonna get f*cked in the ass one way or another! Figuratively or literally! LOL!

So as I understand it, this is the position of the NRA on gun ownership and gun regulation. "Let as many people buy and keep guns who want guns, and let's repeal as many gun regulations and laws as possible, and hope less people use guns to kill others".

Nobody sees a problem with that?

"If we ALL have guns, we are all safer"? REALLY?

You are comparing apples to tampons again!

"Fifty years ago" we still had morals. It was before prolific violence on TV. Before the internet. Before the proliferation of psychotropic drug abuse. It was a different time.

Build a time machine and go back 50 years and keep your guns!

Our country has to learn, and move ahead in the right direction. Not keep doing the same hoping things might change.

If you want or need to shoot an assault rifle, join the army!

Every crazy citizen on drugs, don't need to be wielding army weapons!

I have a neighbor, a very sick individual, one who can't even function normally in society, who recently got a carry permit and a handgun! THAT will not end nicely! Did I mention he is highly medicated?

Mind altering, psychotropic drugs and guns do not mix. They are the perfect combination for disaster.
