I noticed the sign in Stony's photo. It's possible that if they drove the concrete mixer truck over the bridge, especially if it was full, that they overloaded it. The average mixer truck weighs 40,000 pounds.
BTR- the bridge is over near Kiwanis court .... it's a welfare area .... so "shopping carts and strollers" was sorta a colloquial joke! No doubt it was done "officially" for handicap access!
Guitar, we have other bridges in town that trucks can't cross! Like the Elm Street bridge nearest the 219 expressway exit. One of the most busiest places in town. I was told that our plow trucks can't legally plow that bridge when it snows. Nor can emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks cross it. Not to mention other city trucks and garbage trucks and busses!
The Elm Street bridge is a very important thoroughfare, an important route for emergency vehicles, and is deteriorated so bad, the weight limit is reduced substantially. Soon it will be unusable for cars!
Meanwhile ..... on the other side of town .... we have a redundant decorative walking bridge that can handle any amount of weight that can be put on it!
