I just love reading the ERA sometimes. Especially when they fall short of getting their stories right. It makes for an interesting read. It leaves the reader responsabe for figgering out what the real story is. Like todays story that is titled "Federal jury rules in favor of trooper Petrof".
And starts out: "A federal jury in Erie has returned a verdict in favor of Kane-based state trooper Matthew Petrof in a civil rights lawsuit filed by Bradford businesswoman Dianne Thompson from a 2009 traffic stop".
Just from the title and the first paragraph, who do you think won the lawsuit? Apparently it was Dianne Thompson! It fooled me too!
From further down in the article: "The jury did not award any punitive damages in the case, yet awarded Thompson one dollar compensation, which Greg Henry called “a complete and total vindication of Dianne Thompson.” It was a never a money thing, it was a principle thing,” Henry said. “The jury just said she didn’t suffer any injury, but we’re still going to give her a dollar. When asked if Thompson plans to appeal the verdict, Henry said no. “That’s my buck and I’m keeping it,” he said.
WOW! THAT SUCKS WHEN YOUR LAWYER WINS YOU A BIG CASH SETTLEMENT, AND KEEPS THE WHOLE THING! LOL!
Thompson’s suit had originally alleged Petrof targeted her because of comments her brothers had made in The Era that criticized the state police. U.S. District Judge Sean McLaughlin dismissed those claims.
Now, I'm no lawyer, but that sounds more like a loss than a win to me.
Now it may be just ME and my humble opinion, but I can't see how it was worth being stopped by the state police, arrested, taken to the hospital and having blood drawn, then re-handcuffed and driven back to my car, then have to hire Greg Henry, sue the state police, travel to Erie (how many times?) sit through a lawsuit, win ONE DOLLAR, which your lawyer publically claims as "his", and return home only to have your hometown newspaper declare: "Federal jury rules in favor of trooper Petrof". I serioulsy hope that "one dollar" is all that Henry charged poor Ms. Thompson!
Only in the bizarro world of Bradford can that be seen as worth it! LOL!

I hope Henry finds another, better opportunity to expose legitimate instances of State Police power abuse. They are more emboldened and a few of the racist Kane officers like D.V. are getting sloppy, so it shouldn't be long before they f*ck up in an embarrassing way.
