You know, it's not bad enough that we've got republican candidates talking about how woman's body will repel pregnancy in the case of "legitimate rape," or another idiot saying that when a woman is impregnated during a rape, it is "something that God intended to happen, but NOW --

They wasted time and money trying to pass a bill that would deny welfare benefits to rape victims if they pregnant and don't report and ID the rapist!

Now, I am definitely NOT in favor of women popping out babies to get more welfare money. But this has got to be the worst attack on women yet. First of all, how much money are they going to really save here? How many welfare women get pregnant by rapists to begin with? Why even THINK about something like this!?

I just cannot believe that people actually think the republican party is SANE!

Of course, NOW they're backing off, but the WOMAN who proposed this bill still defends it!

""The rape part is not what I requested," Swanger said.

She went on to say that she had asked the House research staff to help draft the proposal, and to base her bill on existing New Jersey legislation.

That law includes a cap, but not a requirement that rape or incest be reported for the woman to qualify for benefits, according to a spokesperson for New Jersey's Department of Human Services.

Swanger said that Pennsylvania House researchers had adapted the language in her bill from an older piece of Pennsylvania legislation. Then they "put my name on it."

She added, "I didn't check," the three-page bill."

Yeah, right! I think my head's about to EXPLODE!
