We all have had our share of visits to Bradford Hospital but I thought we would share our story. A family member hospitalized recently and then sent to the Nursing Home. While there we observed how under-staffed and heard how under-paid the staff is there. I don't know if there are any state laws on Nursing staff to Patient ratio but I will research it and file a complaint appropriately. We observed the under-staffed CNA's and Nurses trying to do a good job but in reality they just can't carry the load of their jobs properly. I have heard and seen administrators who do not seem to care about them. We do see administrators who do what they have to do to cover their own butts and collect a huge paycheck no matter who they step on. Their concern is not patient care that is for sure. IDK if anyone else has experienced or seen these actions but I am seeking comments and what I can do about it. If you know where I can find out any info on this subject please comment or feel free to PM me. Call me old fashion but Patient Care should be first and foremost.

I agree! We had yet another terrible experience with them today, 4th time we were told a PCP is too busy (to do a recheck after they forced my husband to go to the ER because they had no appointments). I called administration. 4 times this year!!! Each time they were called relatively early in the day too. I guess they figure our PCP copay is 20 but an ER visit banks them $80 extra.

To get old, sick, or have an emergency in this town is downright scary.

Since our experience there we have heard so many people complaining about this subject. Another thing is NO trauma center is available for emergencies that they just call the helicopters in and ship people out. More and more people just seem to be wanting to go somewhere else. We will be thinking about this before we make another trip there. I have not had the chance to look up info on this subject but I guess we will muddle through until we figure out how and where to file a complaint. Please let me know if any info is out there on this.

First I would like to say this is not anything personal against the accident victim and am very happy for this women's well being following the scooter vs. car accident yesterday. But on the other hand, this woman was automatically transferred to Erie via Helicopter   without even being seen at Bradford Hospital. She was treated for a broken toe, scrapes and bruises and released. Is this something Bradford Hospital could have handled?????? or should have????? I would guess this caused her family much stress. Could this have been avoided if Bradford Hospital evaluated her first? I just don't understand why this hospital does this.

Yes, thank God she came out of this as well as she did.

While the family having to drive all the way to Erie after the patient survived the helicopter ride out there may have been stressful, it's a lot better than risking her life having gauze pads applied here in Bradford.

How would you like to lose a loved one due to complications from having bandages put on simple scrapes and bruises?

I'd-a risked a helicopter ride to Erie any day, even if I had to travel outside the cockpit hanging on to the landing strut with one hand, rather than be treated in Bradford!

CUBA people! Cuba NY has a great hospital, that is clean, efficient, and inexpensive! And far closer than Erie! Or Warren Pa for that matter!

It's actually quicker to get treated for minor injuries if you take a helicopter ride to Erie or Buffalo rather than going to BRMC.

I'm not familiar with this case but I do know medical triage has changed a lot in recent years. A friend was involved in an accident a couple years ago. His most serious injury turned out to be severe bruising of his shoulder from hanging upside down in the shoulder harness. But he was unconscious at the scene. Due to worries about a head injury he was airlifted from the scene (only two miles from our hospital) to a major trama center fifty miles away. He could have been taken to our hospital first, but if he did have head trama that delay could have been disasterous. Overkill sometimes, yes. But these procedures have been proven to save lives. I'll cede to the medical personel on the scene in these cases.

I've always had excellent care at BRMC and have NO qualms about being treated there.

That being said, God forbid I'm in an accident; I don't have insurance and can't be insured individually due to pre-existing conditions.

NOW there's something ELSE for me to be worried about if the worst should happen: the possibility that I'll be Life-Flighted to Erie or someplace!

Used to be that you needed a Heart-Lung machine or some other sophisticated treatment to merit this; NOW they send you aloft for contusions... Go figure!

Break a bone at the wrong time of day and you have to get life flighted or shipped via ambulance to an out of area hospital because BRMC doesn't have 24/7 orthopedic coverage.

Is this going to be another BRMC blunder? A co-workers daughter needed to get her little boy into his doctor today because of high fever and sick. When she called his doctor, she was told to call a "call center" phone number. WTH? She called that number and was put into a phone system with a 20 minute wait time all this while her son was throwing up and coughing. Finally she got thru and got an appointment. The doctor wanted to see her son in a couple of weeks for follow up and when she told the receptionist she needed a follow up appointment, the receptionist told her she needed to contact the "call center" for it   Anybody else encounter this system yet??? Sounds totally ridiculous and a waste of time to me. What an effen joke this hospital is turning into.

If she is going to Pediatric Associates (Dr. Pradhan, Goro, or Miller), tell her to call the office directly and ask for Debbie Pingie or call administration and file a complaint. If she needs Debbie's direct line you can pm me and I'll give it to you. I've been through this almost every time my kids have had to go to the Dr for something.
