(you know who I'm talking about!) There are many irresponsible pet owners around here. I worked at the SPCA earlier this year, it was a heartbreaking job. I rarely made my way up to the office area when there were private turnovers, some of those stories just make you so angry and you can't say anything to them.

I'm at the Shelter a lot, and it's almost always full. Nothing new about the Facebook announcement. It's just a new and better way to hear about all the animals. Before FB, the SPCA was just a building tucked away from everybody, and nobody had to be confronted by the atrocities of abusive, negligent, or careless pet owners. So now we all know. So many people have to "move" and can't take their pet. Yeah, right! Chances are, they got evicted, can't afford the pet anyway, yet will have a new puppy or kitten within weeks. Not all people bringing animals to the shelter are scummers. I for one have gotten dirty looks from people in the parking lot for bringing BACK a shelter animal that I have been taking care of post surgery. It's called a medical foster. I've also fostered tiny kittens dropped off without their mother. So don't be to quick to judge everybody you see walking in with an animal. Not all private turnovers are scummers either. Sometime a family member has died, and nobody in the family can take the pet (saddest of all) And it's the best temporary place for those animals. Wish I could bring them all home to stay, but with 8 cats and dogs, I'm full.

Or there are some people, like myself who love pets and would love to care for them, but are allergic and can't have cats and dogs in the house.
I think everybody understands who I am calling "Scummer pet owners".
It's not every singe person who brings a pet into the SPCA, but rather those scummers who take pets they can't afford to take care of properly, and those who don't spay and let their pets breed uncontrollably (like they do themselves!). It's the scummers who take pets to the SPCA and then turn around and get more pets they can't afford or care for properly!
To properly care for a pet, it costs a lot of money. What with the food, the shots and medications, and in some cases litter.
That kind of stuff is way down the list of scummer priorities like tattoos, piercings, drugs, alcohol, ornamental swords, three-wheelers, video games, big screen televisions, cell phones, leather apparel, jewelry, renting furniture and appliances, paint ball equipment, ordering (food) out, paying fines, children's diapers, and saving for your children's tattoos and piercings! I hope I got those in the right order!
I'm sure some of you SPCA "insiders" have some horror stories about "repeat customers".

All posts eventually lead to scummers (and the city governments reluctance to deal with them) The scummers who reproduce directly behind me, (in addition to having a house that looks worse than the landfill) have 4 or 5 small wellettes, junk, debris, and a sewer problem to name just a few issues, has at least 3 feral cats that come and go through open windows, and at least 3 dogs inside their hovel. They are private owner slobs, and have had revolving door animals, mostly dogs for as long as i can remember. I have seen too many atrocities with this family, including dogs jumping through second story windows to escape, one cutting his throat and vocal chords on the plate glass in the process. The cats come onto my property and crap in my yard, spread fleas, worms, and you name it, yowl on my garage roofs at night, torment my dogs, and no doubt reproduce like their wellie owners, so the pound and the rest of us can deal with this (while we work to support them...)

If you are on welfare, it should be illegal to own a pet. It should be illegal to NOT be on birth control. It should be illegal to buy drugs, beer, liquor, cigarettes, or tattoes. If you are on welfare, it should be illegal for you to be on the streets past 9pm. I think we make it too damn desirable to be on welfare, and it should be a bare bones existance that would make a person want to get a job. But then the politicians, welfare case workers, Elf fund, United Way, etc, would all be people without a cause. Can't have that!

Haha! Also, in true TAB fashion, the thread, no matter what it is about, ends up being about welfare!
