Dear Stony, this post should have had a different topic altogether, That you hijacked my Woofstock thread in order to vent your anger on a dog attack that did not even take place on SPCA grounds, is irresponsible and down right hateful.

Shadow, with all due respect, I disagree! The topic talked about the SPCA and I was on topic. First and foremost I posted to warn others who may hike the Indian Pipe Trail or any trail that somebody might walk SPCA dogs off the leash and out of control. I was warning to hopefully save somebody from being bitten or mauled by a pack of dogs. It's was done out of concern, not hate, or being "irresponsible". The dog walker was the only one who was irresponsible!

Clearly this person is an idiot for doing this, and I assure you, it will not be permitted again.

Thank you! My mission is accomplished! That was easy!

I have walked Marilla many many times, and seen dogs with or without leashes, that DO NOT belong to the SPCA.

We have all seen this! I've seen people let angry, dangerous dogs off a leash out there and one day one might get shot!

Shadow wrote:
That you chose to highlight the ownership of these dogs, after YOU, YOURSELF used the SPCA to unload your own dog Sadie, is despicable!

Well, truth be told that was my ex-wifes doing!
I didn't own pets before I met her, and I do not own any now that she is gone. She just HAD to own a dog and cats and nearly every other kind of pet, even though I was allergic.

And Shadow, what are you implying? That if I used the SPCA once in my life, I have no right criticizing it for something I believe is wrong? Like letting irresponsible people walk pacs of dogs, (some dangerous) off their leashes?

I hope the SPCA does heed my warning and screen their walkers better!

And for the record, I will also complain about any private individual who lets their dogs off their leashes ESPECIALLY if they attack or maul humans!

To quote the law: "any person may kill any dog which he sees in the act of pursuing or wounding or killing any domestic animal, including household pets, or pursuing, wounding or attacking human beings, whether or not such a dog bears a required license tag. There is no liability on such persons in damages or otherwise for such killing".

Aah!----you proved my point Spanky :) you got busted this time and i am confident it will contiue to happen!.You can't Shoot first !---you need to aim first  ~~My mission is completed now. ~~~Me.

I retract my last statement. I am correcting it to say that I would have went had I been home and my wife says that they had a blast and we're lucky we don't have 4 more dogs. 3 is plenty until we get the funds around to build the shelter that we want to build. We're hoping that some day we can open a pet rescue and help the SPCA's from the surrounding areas house animals waiting to be adopted and ease the strain on the organization. My business needs to expand a bit more and we need to sell our current house and get one outside of the city before it'd be feasible though.

Thanks for getting us back on track, JeffT. Yes, we all had a great time on Saturday. So many caring people came out to help, walk dogs, window shop! Add to that, some sororities and fraternities from Pitt came in large numbers, enabling all the dogs to get out of the kennels! I was told 7 dogs went on foster, and maybe more to follow. I'm glad your family participated. :D

Now, as for Citizens comments. At a very young age I was attacked by a German Shepard and still have scars on my leg to prove it. It traumatized me my whole life! I'm still afraid of German Shepards! I would shoot an attacking dog in a second if I had a gun on me and was in danger of being attacked! We are all entitled to our own opinions and must decide for ourselves how far we are willing to go to protect ourselves.

Me too, bitten by a German shepherd at age 5, still have the scar on my hand. It must have been my 5 year old "bad character" the dog sensed. What an ignorant statement, Citizen. The dog and its owner were lucky my mother didn't shoot 'em both. Totally support shooting dogs who bite/attack people, especially children. Most of the people who let their dogs run leashless around Marilla & other area trails are probably not SPCA volunteers, but I wouldn't know. Seems like there are a lot of them running amok (leashless dogs). No law or ordinance to keep 'em on leashes, huh?

Does the SPCA have a policy about the number of dogs a person can walk for them at once? It seems like they shouldn't have let one person take multiple dogs, so the alleged incident would have been the SPCAs fault for letting some ninny take more dogs than they could control.

Sorry to derail, chiming in late on this. Citizen's insinuation that dogs sense bad character or that only people w/bad character get bitten by dogs pissed me off and I couldn't resist adding my $0.02. I'm sure the SPCA is awesome.

Having owned dogs for most of my life, it is my experience that dogs do sense things about people that we cant/dont. I have seen it first hand. That being said, this is not failsafe with every dog, or every person. It also is a two way street, not every person that is bitten by a dog is a bad person, and not every dog that bites is a bad dog. Some dogs were abused, or may even have a chemical imbalance, like people... I personally love dogs, most sense this and love me back, but not all. I was bitten once (only time in my life) by an overprotective dog, when i got between it and its owner. Was i mad? yes. Did i want to kill the dog? no. Do i judge all dogs by that ones actions, no. And BTW, there are scientific studies that dogs are good judges of character, here is one. http://ibnlive.in.com/videos/135597/dog ... study.html

So by walking the trails around Bradford, I'm submitting to having my character judged by an animal, and he can punish or reward me as he sees fit. No thanks. I don't give a crap what the dog's motive is; if it bites me its getting a lead aspirin.

I will concede that dogs should always be on leashes in public areas, but im pretty sure how i would react if i saw someone shoot a dog...

Great! now we will having people walking Marilla with LOADED GUNS, ready to shoot at the slightest provocation!
Can you say overkill? Hysteria?

I have walked Marilla hundreds of times, and never been attacked by ONE dog, let alone "wild packs" of them.
Maybe a certain poster who started this hysteria can have t-shirts printed up...."I'm a killa at Marilla".

Geez...this is like a good 'ole fashioned TAB thread! Someone starts a thread on an innocent, fun topic, and then it gets threadjacked into something completely off-topic, mean-spirited, and horrible (The SPCA is full of wild dogs that travel in packs and attack people!) then people try to bring it back, but others keep up the threadjacking, until everyone gets disgusted with it, and it slowly wends its way to the bottom of the page. Now all we need is Walkingman to get on here and insult everyone, and Laura to jump in and scold, and that churchy fundie guy (can't remember his name) to put in some stupid remark that only he finds amusing, and end it with one of these: ... Anyway,Woofstock is a wonderful thing, as it gets people in Bradford involved in a great cause and maybe promotes awareness of how many homeless animals there are in this area, due to human negligence. Please spay and/or neuter your pet.

SPCA posted on FB yesterday that they are full! They have pups of all sizes looking for homes! If you know of anyone looking please send them down! Also if anyone is able to foster at all!
