OK Stony, im sorry, that was a little harsh. I will try and see it from your point of view, but i am an animal lover (with a concealed carry permit) and i had visions of a shootout on the trail.

Not that anyone needs to prove anything on here, but this story is 100% true. I sure am glad our favorite message board cop comes back like a bad rash to enforce his/her imaginary rules...Has this person contributed anything constructive to BT? moderator? BTW i totally support the SPCA and any volunteers all the way. I was just confirming that this incident did happen. In fact this IMO is a pretty ignorant statement by Stony; "Had that been ME that was attacked, I would have reported the woman and demanded the dog was put down, at the very least" bad Karma Stony... bad Karma... most dogs are pretty good judges of character.
Here you go Crying to the Moderator!--Wah!!!!----i pointed out (Just what he Said--and you come out swining for your partner!----what's up with you 2??? ----Talk about a Rash!----get something for yours and get over your Bad Self!!!!!. In your childish actions --you strike out. You 2 remind me of my Avator!.You 2 don't intimidate me in the least.~~~Me.
You got 3rd party gossip?----and right away you talk about the SPCA -without any real Facts!!!--makes them look Real Good there Spanky! Good job once again!. Shoot without aiming first!.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Me!
If figgers noneya comes out of hiding just to spew hate on BT! As always, I end up being the subject of her hate!
And once again, as Citizen has so accurately pointed out, I did not repeat untrue 3rd party gossip, but I relayed the facts as told to me by somebody at the scene of the attack!
And even though this is none-ya business noneya, I wasn't railing against the SPCA, but rather the foolish and illegal actions of this one dog walker.
I just highly recommend to the SPCA, for their own protection, they only let responsible walkers who keep the dogs on a leash and under control walk their dogs.
Now, as for Citizens comments. At a very young age I was attacked by a German Shepard and still have scars on my leg to prove it. It traumatized me my whole life! I'm still afraid of German Shepards! I would shoot an attacking dog in a second if I had a gun on me and was in danger of being attacked! We are all entitled to our own opinions and must decide for ourselves how far we are willing to go to protect ourselves.
By the Time i Stoop to your Level of reasoning--i won't be able to reach my keyboard!.
This is for Cornfunkel and all who may be concerned:
Summary: These statutes represent Pennsylvania's Dog Law, and contain provisions related to licensing, rabies quarantines, kennels, and the dangerous dog chapter. The significant features of the law include a statewide control requirement for dogs (Section 305) and provisions for "dangerous dogs" (Section 501 et. seq.). Under the latter, any person may kill any dog which he sees in the act of pursuing or wounding or killing any domestic animal, including household pets, or pursuing, wounding or attacking human beings, whether or not such a dog bears a required license tag. There is no liability on such persons in damages or otherwise for such killing. Any person who has been attacked by a dog(s) may file a complaint to have the dog registered as "dangerous." Not only is a crime in the Commonwealth to harbor a dangerous dog, but an owner must post a surety bond for $50,000 (can be an insurance policy) and the dog must be proper enclosed unless muzzled and restrained by a substantial chain or leash while under physical restraint of a responsible person.
I just recently heard a story from a friend about a guy on the Indian Pipe Trail who was attacked by a pack of dogs being walked for the SPCA.
Apparently the girl walking them (short, small girl with dark hair) didn't have them on a leash, nor under her control. The guy was bitten and had his clothes torn by an out of control German Shepard.
I believe anybody waking dogs for the SPCA, ESPECIALLY on public property or on a public hiking trail SHOULD obey the law and keep ALL dogs on a (6') leash!
Further, I believe the SPCA should require all dog walkers follow the laws! And beyond that require they all use common sense, and respect others who may be using the public trails!
A child could have been mauled badly (or worse) by that dog!
Had that been ME that was attacked, I would have reported the woman and demanded the dog was put down, at the very least, but more likely she (the dog walker) would have had to drag that dogs body all the way back to the SPCA! I would have saved them the euthanasia costs!
Dog walkers be warned!
Hikers ..... carry protection, and don't be afraid to use it!
Dear Stony, this post should have had a different topic altogether, That you hijacked my Woofstock thread in order to vent your anger on a dog attack that did not even take place on SPCA grounds, is irresponsible and down right hateful. People walk dogs for the SPCA all the time. Myself included. I do not take them out of the SPCA neighborhood, or let them off the leash. Clearly this person is an idiot for doing this, and I assure you, it will not be permitted again. I have walked Marilla many many times, and seen dogs with or without leashes, that DO NOT belong to the SPCA. That you chose to highlight the ownership of these dogs, after YOU, YOURSELF used the SPCA to unload your own dog Sadie, is despicable!

You Stony, are the one spewing hate. These dogs were not on a leash. Period. It matters not that they belong to the SPCA. They were NOT on a leash. That is the fault of the person responsible for them. You weren't rallying against the SPCA?! REALLY! Then why put this on the SPCA Woofstock topic, and point out they belong to the SPCA?

Shadow, with all due respect, I disagree! The topic talked about the SPCA and I was on topic. First and foremost I posted to warn others who may hike the Indian Pipe Trail or any trail that somebody might walk SPCA dogs off the leash and out of control. I was warning to hopefully save somebody from being bitten or mauled by a pack of dogs. It's was done out of concern, not hate, or being "irresponsible". The dog walker was the only one who was irresponsible!

Thank you! My mission is accomplished! That was easy!

We have all seen this! I've seen people let angry, dangerous dogs off a leash out there and one day one might get shot!

Well, truth be told that was my ex-wifes doing! I didn't own pets before I met her, and I do not own any now that she is gone. She just HAD to own a dog and cats and nearly every other kind of pet, even though I was allergic.
And Shadow, what are you implying? That if I used the SPCA once in my life, I have no right criticizing it for something I believe is wrong? Like letting irresponsible people walk pacs of dogs, (some dangerous) off their leashes?
I hope the SPCA does heed my warning and screen their walkers better!
And for the record, I will also complain about any private individual who lets their dogs off their leashes ESPECIALLY if they attack or maul humans!
To quote the law: "any person may kill any dog which he sees in the act of pursuing or wounding or killing any domestic animal, including household pets, or pursuing, wounding or attacking human beings, whether or not such a dog bears a required license tag. There is no liability on such persons in damages or otherwise for such killing".

"THE DOG WALKER WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO WAS IRRESPONSIBLE" Thanks Stony, for proving my point! It matters not where the dogs came from, only that a HUMAN did not take the proper steps. Yet you keep harping that they were a pack from the SPCA! Yes, warn others that wild packs of dogs from the SPCA, and only the SPCA, are running amok at Marilla! And bash the SPCA all you want, but they were there when YOU needed them. Oh wait! It was your wife's fault! Try working at the SPCA for one day (not that you ever would, or could), and you'll see what they are up against without crackpots like you making their jobs harder with your misguided "concern".
...And another thing. I have a HUGE German Shepard, but he will never bite you. We broke him of that nasty habit of eating fecal matter when he was a puppy!
I personally won't be in town to attend but I know that my wife and children are looking forward to it. We love the pets/family members that we've adopted there.
