Since everybody knows Hollywood Helen as the Ambassador of Bradford, when I seen this post title I was afraid she passed on. Now I see that is not the case.
Not sure if Bernie and Shadow are serious or are they poking fun at the fact that the more fervent ones religious beliefs are, the lower their IQ rate tends to be.
I don't mean to slam any of my religious friends, or Hollywood Helen, or any of her family or friends. I'm just making an observation here.
I wondering if this was posted to make that point?
This seems like a good fit ...... Hollywood Helen and First Night Talent Contest.
Who ran this thing?
I was amused by the image on the "big screen". At most venues like this, they display a big screen with the performers LARGER than life, so those far away can see the performer better.
In this case the performer on the stage is LARGER than the image on the screen! The exact opposite of what it should be! LOL! Only in Bradford!
There is probably a very fine line between showing the world how "down home", quirky, and "folksy" Bradford is, and embarrassing ourselves!
This may have crossed that line.
Does anybody besides me see the irony that the lady who tells the "can of beans" story any chance she gets, is also a big fan of religion and God?

I hope you don't think that I'm picking on you today, I just saw this and know that it's fundamentally flawed. From a Harvard study on the correlation between IQ and religiosity, "The authors say it is all evidence that a relevant factor in religious belief is thinking style. The authors add that, even if intuitive thinking tends to increase belief in God, "it does not follow that reliance on intuition is always irrational or unjustified.""

My only comment....."totally awesome", was in the spirit of goodness. Here is a woman that sees life for what it is. She is happy, she is kind, she doesn't care what you think of her! Who says You have to have a low IQ to be religious?! Where is it written that if you had kids and didn't know who their father is, that you can't be a good person?! Would it be so terrible if we all join hands with Helen, and sing along. The world does need more love, even if it is off key!

I can't say that I enjoy Helen's rendition, but I do agree that it doesn't do any harm.
I also agree that even if you are a woman that doesn't know who the father of her children are, you can still be a good person. Being enough of a parent to take on both rolls is commendable.
Here is my only preachy section. I believe in God, and his son Jesus. I DO NOT believe in all that stuff about purgatory or that even if you are a good person doing certain things wrong are guaranteed to land you in hell. I personally believe that God is a lot more loving than that which is illustrated by him sending his only son to die for us. Why do that and then send us all to hell?
I also agree that even if you are a woman that doesn't know who the father of her children are, you can still be a good person.
I like Hollywood Helen for the most part. She is harmless and a great ambassador for Bradford.
And as a fellow democrat, a liberal, and an Atheist I could care less how many fathers or potential or possible fathers she has for her children.
But most Christian Churches (even in Bradford) look down their noses at children born out of wedlock. That was my only point. Just thought it was ironic is all.
She is a great performer! Those competing against her in the talent contest have their work cut out for them.
I'm not going to argue the facts about IQ's and religion ... there has been tons of studies and reports about it already.
And this is just my anecdotal experience, but the smartest people I know in my life are non-religious and the dumbest people I know are very religious.
Your question [about God] is the most difficult in the world. It is not a question I can answer simply with yes or no. I am not an Atheist. I do not know if I can define myself as a Pantheist. The problem involved is too vast for our limited minds. May I not reply with a parable? The human mind, no matter how highly trained, cannot grasp the universe. We are in the position of a little child, entering a huge library whose walls are covered to the ceiling with books in many different tongues. The child knows that someone must have written those books. It does not know who or how. It does not understand the languages in which they are written. The child notes a definite plan in the arrangement of the books, a mysterious order, which it does not comprehend, but only dimly suspects. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of the human mind, even the greatest and most cultured, toward God. We see a universe marvelously arranged, obeying certain laws, but we understand the laws only dimly. Our limited minds cannot grasp the mysterious force that sways the constellations. I am fascinated by Spinoza's Pantheism. I admire even more his contributions to modern thought. Spinoza is the greatest of modern philosophers, because he is the first philosopher who deals with the soul and the body as one, not as two separate things.
Religion evolved to keep people in line. How many people do things b/c their religion dictates it? As long as your religion does not hinder me, pray away!
I had no special reason or purpose is posting that video, it popped up in the results of a completely unrelated internet search. I perceived it to be cute, repulsive, immature, hilarious, downgrading, uplifting, inspirational and boring. I felt compelled to post it to BT. BTW, Stony, it appears to be a *Josh Hatcher* thing.
Well, here's the deal. Whenever somebody, say from a radio station, or a local popular church posts "stuff" about Hollywood Helen, for all to see, it enables people to make fun of her. Some of us may enjoy her antics and performances, but others use it to insult her and laugh at her.
My original statement was: "Not sure if Bernie and Shadow are serious, or are they poking fun at the fact that the more fervent ones religious beliefs are, the lower their IQ rate tends to be". I stand by that.
Bernie just posted the link, but I suspected it might have been to make fun of her.
And then Shadow responded "Totally awesome", which again, I thought might have been tongue-in-cheek, rather than an endorsement of Helen's enthusiastically expressed religious beliefs.
Shadow, I didn't know you were such a serious supporter of God and Hollywood Helen!
As she says, we will all go to heaven .....
WELL, YOU GUYS will all end up in heaven!
Shadow ..... good luck with that! Hope you get a good seat between Josh Hatcher, and Hollywood Helen for eternity!
