While shopping today downtown I saw the same Red Electric Scooter with an orange triangle on it driving right down Main Street on the road. Now don't get me wrong as I know these scooters provide assistance to SOME people legit but I see more people on them who are not in need of it. This one in particular was being driven by a woman who came back by eating a huge ice cream cone on the side of Main Street. The second fellow was a young man who looked like he required no assistance from one of these scooters and was traveling on East Main on the road. The third guy I have seen numerous times who is NOT physically handicapped at all and when I said to him what happened to you and he responded "nothing, I am just running some errands for someone and my car is not running" !!!!! and he was on the road. WTH is it with these people doing this. Are there any laws for these things that should be enforced better? I thought that is why the sidewalks were made handicap accessible. These are not a liscensed vehicle and they continue to ride on the main road causing hazards. Any comments about this are welcome! And an after thought is who pays for these things? Certainly, not the people I see driving them! :?: :?: :?:

I couldnt agree more Wolf. These seem to be the newest "prop" for those on trumped up disability compensation. Most of them look to me like their main disability is being fat... You used to see these people with a cane or something like that, at least the ones who had a guilty concience about taking disability when they didnt really need it. Yes, that is the key phrase here, before someone starts wailing about some poor misfortunate that i maligned. The fact that these things are in our bombed out streets (along with all the other wellies that refuse to use the sidewalks) just adds to our 'welfare capital of Pennsylvania' appearance. I wonder if we will install lifts at each end of the Pine street pedestrian bridge for them? BTW Wolf, i have seen these people on these wheelchair/scooters in places that are dangerous in a car, one place that comes to mind is the lower part of South ave where the hill runs out at the bottom near E corydon. Cars are usually going at a pretty good clip here and have just rounded the bend at Elm and have limited site distance. Ironically, one of the nicest sidewalks around is here along the funeral home lot. They are not afraid to "jaywalk" in these things either, i have had them cut right out into the street with no warning, as there are many in my 'hood'.

Along these same lines, i was on Main street early yesterday morning (on my way to work) running an errand, and i noticed a lot of these wellies and ne'erdowells milling around and staking out their spots for the day. You used to be able to get up early in the morning and not have to see or hear them. Just witnessing this makes my blood absolutely boil! If this is going on all over the country, we are doomed as a society...

I see the crud at 6am almost every morning. Probably haven't gone to bed yet. Now there are two new couples strolling the streets with them! Zombies!

Out of the crosswalk these scooters are illegally being operated. Run them over and save us all some money.
