Beacon Light just had an employee arrested for sexual assault against two female residents. I heard that it took the investigation so long due to a Jerry Sandusky style stonewall for image control. My understanding is that this place receives over 30 million in tax payer dollars a year and regularly steals from their employees through payroll time and vacation pay. I read a while back that a union tried to form and the management hired the largest and most expensive law firm in the country that prevents unions from forming. There was a don't drink the kool-aid campaign by the law firm and Beacon Light. What are they trying to hide? In talking with people this employer has an army of attorneys surrounding it and it and is managed by a supposed criminal element. On a web site called liteunite.com I read that there is over 3 million dollars missing from Beacon Lights books. This is the same agency that practices dumping their out of town clients in downtown Bradford.

Just a rumor, but I'm told they get $2 million a year for the people under 18, including the group homes around town.
These group homes have multiple people and most times they have multiple people that are abusive. Beacon light already pays the employees the bare minimum that they can get away with. The people that sit at the group homes at night are paid less that McDonald's employees. Then, to save more money, they only have one person with these people at most times and then since they have no backup they get beaten by the clients.
One woman not too long ago was beaten so badly that she suffered brain damage.
If Beacon light is getting 2 million per year for each person, couldn't they at least pay their employees a decent living wage for their risk?

So essentially we have a "system" in Bradford by which we "import" problem kids and young adults with mental and/or emotional problems from all over the state (or nearby states?), that "dumps them on the streets" after they are too old to stay with Beacon Light?
Are you serious?
And nobody from the city has addressed this?
Let me guess .... it's putting money in somebodies pocket so the rest of us are supposed to look the other way?

I applied there last year because, well, there's a lack of jobs here that I can get to... I was told that they wanted to hire me, however my first "safety" training wouldn't be held for a month and that if a client hit me there was nothing I could do, someone else would have to restrain them. I'm sorry, but I don't care if there is something mentally wrong with someone they hit me, I'm taking them to the ground forcefully and holding them there. I'm not talking kids with that are MR, I'm talking kids that have BEHAVIOR issues.

NO!
I once knew a guy who worked in that position ("night guard"), and it's actually worse than you can imagine or describe!
Plain and simple, when you pay for s&%$, you get S&%$ for employees a good amount of the time. That's how you end up getting these kid touchers and molesters in these positions. I'm pretty sure they have to run a background check on all of these employees too, wonder if that was skipped in this most recent case.

They do end up on the streets of Bradford, and from what little I've seen, preparation for independent living once they age out isn't all that great...maybe even slim to none.
When I've railed against Social Services being a mainstay for employment here in Bradford, BL has been one of the foremost in my mind. It's big and getting bigger-- in part because of more and worse societal problems and in part because they cast a wiiiiiide net to actively recruit troubled, uncontrollable kids.
How did charities like the Children's Home get to be such big business?

The agency is to setup a net work for the kids when they reach the age to leave. The state that they came from for the most part does not want them back---it's all a $$$$$ thing. No follow up at All!!!. They do a Back Ground check on everyone and are suppose to do a check once a year after that!--But they cost $$$ also. One thing that nobody has mentioned is the kids he had contact with. They are more messed up now that you can even imagine---what a domino effect it will have in years to come ----I know this Staff Person!--it's his fault and no one elses. His choice----we can't blame the agency for it. But the agency is doing what they have to do! Cover their Azz!. The agency should be fined big time. If it happened in N.Y.S. they would most likley be shut down. Bradford needs to start a petition!--Beacon Light needs to change policies .Like all other agencies they forget it's about the Kids and not the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.Sorry for the Ramble! ~~~I hope the Staff Person gets some Serious jail time.

Looked into a few things and Beacon Light is not a charity. It is a non-profit, tax exempt entity, that pays no taxes. No property tax on any property they own. Its web site said it dissolved the Children's Home of Bradford and created Beacon Light, this may be when the criminal element took hold I am told. The "Company" is actually 3 companies and get this, 1 is called the Children's Home of Bradford, (dissolved??), another The Center for Treatment and Education and the Ransbottom Center. This non-profit I discovered is subject to public scrutiny and if the public request their financial records they must turn them over to the public to maintain their tax exempt status. The guy arrested was in management!
