Well I just bet the City Police and Fire Departments were missing the services of the Special Police at the scene of the fire on Elm Street. From what I witnessed several people drove past the temporary stop signs and the city police and ran over hoses and causing a disturbance at the fire scene. The one guy got into an argument with the fireman about getting directed around the scene and hopefully, they fine his sorry ass. If the Special Police would have been on scene this would have been avoided. It would have allowed the Fireman the opportunity to fight the fire and not have to do traffic control. The City Police would have been freed up to do other police work. All of this crap over ONE INDIVIDUAL who didn't want to wait for the School Buses on Seward Avenue. And this fire did not go unscathed as I understand a dog died in the fire. It could have been a person getting killed because the fireman were doing traffic control. I hope this ONE INDIVIDUAL is proud of himself. JERK!!!!! We need our Special Police in instances like this more than ever!

2 dogs, 2 birds and 5 cats died. All people and the downstairs tenant's cats got out okay. I did see people trying to run over pressurized 4" lines though. Not a single person of any authority nearby to tell them not to.

I knew a couple members of the Special Police when I lived in Bradford. They were serious about the job and from what I observed did an effective job. I never understood the negative comments about Special Police but maybe things are different today.

Wait a sec. I thought the Special Police where "back in action" under a new name, C.S.I and where to do crime scene investigations, wait, I mean traffic control. LOL

"the organization will return a much needed service to the community"

http://www.bradfordera.com/news/local/a ... f887a.html

Today I see in the paper, "ATTENTION: Former special police chief Larry Smith is no longer associated with Cross Safe Inc."

I also seen them looking to hire people in today's era:

http://www2.bradfordera.com/classifieds/ads/28773188/

What's up with that? Will jobs done previously by volunteers be replaced by paid workers for company profits? An inevitable outcome I guess. What was the original reasons to get rid of them in the first place? I can't remember.

The original reason is/was an employee at FCI McKean, who was probably a "wannaby" lawyer, had to go home via Seward Avenue and did not like getting stopped by the Special Police to allow the buses to exit Constitution Avenue. This person supposedly researched the Pennsylvania law and there was not a Law supporting their actions there. He wrote a few letters and whined, pissed and moaned enough that the City decided that instead of telling him to "go fly a kite" and show some support for an organization that has been helping the community for decades, they would just grease the squeaky ass and put the Special Police out of action. Since then we have had problems at parades with traffic control, when traffic lights go out and now fires. When someone gets hurt or killed maybe they will realize what a bad decision it was.

Kudos to Steve C. in getting some type of group to help out at the busy bus intersection. But it comes with a price tag.

I dont know who the people were directing traffic at Tops during the Italian Fest but I did witness one of them parking in the handicap space to take over a shift.

C.S.I. (CROSS SAFE INCORPORATED) !
Steve C. formed them to help take up the duties of the former SPECIAL POLICE.

Forgive me if I may sound stupid here. If a volunteer organization don't have the authority to direct traffic, then how does a company have the authority? If a company does have the legal authority to do that, who gives them that authority? If they do legally have the authority somehow, why is that different than a volunteer group who wants to perform the same duties for those same organizations?

I'm just struggling to understand how a company has authority to direct traffic and a volunteer group don't.

Well CSI did a great job directing traffic at the Crook Farm Music Fest this weekend! They acted very professionally and I didn't seen any incidents with A-holes who didn't want to obey them.

We should all applaud Steve C. for saving the group.

Now Bradford needs a hero who will push for the Neighborhood Watch.

More than likely, it is his willingness to go to court with jerks that want to bring frivolous lawsuits. No judge around here would have found the city guilty on anything but they probably wouldn't be able to justify the costs of fighting it to the taxpayers.
