Someone posted this great quote on facebook in reply to the Marty Causer/Anne Holliday interview about welfare reform. "Welfare assistance should be a safety net not a hammock."
Well a better way of saying it might be "Welfare assistance is meant to be a safety net, not used to purchase tattoos, booze, cigarettes, drugs, sex, parts and fuel for your wheelers, paint ball guns and accessories, ornamental swords, pit bulls, large snakes, fireworks, lottery tickets, pool cues, boom boxes, and other needless or senseless items! ...... Especially items that can or will be used to bother, harass, or ever terrorize other people! ...... Especially when your own children's needs are going unaddressed!
Hey Mr. Causer .... why don't you put your money where your mouth is ......All I heard from you on WESB was empty rhetoric! .... What you are best at!
Why don't you grow a set of balls and propose some badly needed welfare reforms?
Make it a crime to collect welfare and use it to purchase tattoos! ....... For a start!
How about some serious legislation to make it welfare fraud to use welfare to purchase any and all the items I mentioned above?
You are in favor or drug testing welfare recipients, why not ban them from using welfare for cigarettes? Test them for nicotine and alcohol, as well as illegal drugs?
Drug test them, test them for cigarette usage, AND search the bast*rds for TATTOOS!
Tattoos should be the VERY LAST thing a welfare recipient should spend OUR tax dollars on!
AND I'm SURE you know how rampant a problem that is in Bradford!
If not come hang out with me on Main Street one night!
Here is a novel idea, if you are aware of someone abusing the system by scumscamming, don't just bitch about it here, go to the authorities with names dates and other pertinent information. I know I have seen several cases of welfare fraud being prosecuted in the Bradford area in recent years. Bitch about it here but don't stop there, make calls and make a real difference.
Stony writes If you get a chance to call in ..... somebody ask Marty "what can be done in Bradford to curtail the wellies from spending OUR hard earned tax money on tattoos"?
Tell us Mr. Know it all, Why don’t you call him ? All you type is half truths and lies and your side kick Citizen is even worst as far as half truths.I'm surprised somone hasn't taken care of business.

That was a cue to Anne to ask him that question in the interview, and she did. Job done. If you had any sense, you would have known that already.
Ohh and where was the half truth or lie in that part of his post? Are you a wellie that disputes they use taxpayer money on tattoos?

I understand most of what was said above, by both people, but I just can't wrap my brain around the *bold* question. Neo, could you please explain what that means? It appears to me to read slightly like an oxymoron.

Well, right now it's perfectly legal for welfare recipients to use their cash handout (our tax money) on alcohol, cigarettes, tattoos, bizarre pets, lottery tickets, casino trips, 3 and 4 wheelers parts and accessories, paint ball equipment and other such foolish items.
It would only take simple legislation worded something like: "welfare money will not be used for *non-essential* items". You can even list the banned items that should include all of the items I mentioned above.
THEN when a wellie does spend money on such items, charge them with welfare fraud.
But the way the laws are now, all we can do is bitch in public about how wrong this is!
Mr Causer is apparently in favor of testing "them people" for illegal drugs, a small step in the right direction, but we should also outlaw cigarette purchases with our money and test for nicotine also! More welfare money buys cigarettes than illegal drugs. And we already know the harmful effects of cigarette smoking on our society.
And what percentage of welfare recipients do you think in this town has tattoos paid for by us taxpayers? Anybody want to venture an educated guess?
As far as ImGus's "All you type is half truths and lies", I'm pretty sure that isn't true. And as a matter of fact, I'm often approached by people I don't know who complement me on what I write. Never have I had anybody "take care of my business".
Is this some kind of thinly veiled threat on your part? Are you threatening Citizen and I?
Just so nobody thinks you just made a cowardly anonymous threat or slam against us (most people knows Citizens and my identity here), you should man up and reveal your identity. I doubt you will. I don't believe you are "Gus". I think even your user name is a lie!

The following rules are already *supposed to be* in force, it seems to me that a case of fraud would be simple to catch, charge the customer and the offending clerk.
Electronic Benefits Transfer Card
When you qualify for SNAP benefits receive a Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card called the Pennsylvania Access Card. This card is linked to an account where your benefits are deposited each month. You can use the card at any store that accepts the Pennsylvania Access Card. When you use the card, you run it through the Point of Service machine at the checkout like you would with any credit or debit card, and the amount of your purchase is deducted from the available benefits. You can only spend what you have available on the card. You will be required to establish a PIN for your card, and it is a violation of the law to let someone else use your card or to use another person's card.
What SNAP Benefits Can Buy
USDA regulations limit the items that you can purchase with your SNAP benefits. Using your EBT card, you can only purchase food that is meant to be eaten by humans, including fruits, vegetables, breads, cereals, meat, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy products. You can also purchase seeds or plants for a vegetable garden. SNAP benefits cannot be used to buy hot foods, such as cooked chicken or prepared meals, from the grocery store. Pet food, paper and cleaning products, alcohol and tobacco also cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits. Vitamins, medicines and energy drinks with supplemental nutrition labels are also prohibited.
Neo asked ImGus; "Ohh and where was the half truth or lie in that part of his post? Are you a wellie that disputes they use taxpayer money on tattoos?" No i dont think Gus is a wellie, but he is taking over where None Ya left off. Gus, instead of the thinly veiled threats, why dont you man up and talk to Stony and I in person? Just sit down with us and answer the hard questions, then we wont have to tap dance around these issues here. Only a Bully brings his buddys to a fight or uses them to do his dirty work. You really cant see how hypocritical you are? If the public or even those close to you knew what tactics you have already employed to try and censor us, they would be quite shocked. Maybe the local media needs to hear. Gus, If you dont like half truths, why dont you give us the whole truth?

It is surprising that this issue is even being discussed at this late stage of the game. Look in the rear view mirror and you will see a trillion dollars flushed away by well intentioned do-gooders using other people's money. Both the Great Society AND the War on Poverty have epic-failed in their goals of eliminating poverty. They have generated far more poverty than they would have otherwise and have created a PERMANENT underclass that couldn't ever support themselves even if they tried. Not a goddamned clue. This was the goal to begin with.
There is a massive pool of reliable votes there and if tatoos and other misguided-warped luxuries were banned under the welfare system, the politicians and the ACLU would line up to force you to regurgitate your payroll taxes again for the "greater good". It's all good isn't it? Just look at Europe.
All this crap has been baked into the cake for a long long time. Just shut up and go to bed so you can go to work in the morning. There are millions out there counting on it aside from the ones who really need it. They're eatin' YOUR lunch in the land of plenty.
