Holy cow! has anyone else noticed the damage to Sugar Run road? It starts at the Warehouse restaurant and goes at least to Sugar Bay. There are multiple grooves cut in the asphalt lengthwise down both lanes from what looks to be some kind of heavy equipment dragging something sharp, and the berms are all dug up with no where to pull off. There are also large sections where deep mud has clogged the ditches. Even Penndot is more competent than this. Is this road in Corydon township? whoever ruined this scenic road owes the state (and us taxpayers) reimbursement. Could this be the work of a private contractor trying out equipment? It looks more like the work of the Helen Keller/Ray Charles construction company. Pictures to follow.

It's a State Road.

These pictures really do not capture the extent of the damage, but picture this for 5 or 6 miles in both lanes, plus ditches clogged with mud and you start to get the idea. The white grooves you can see in the photos are probably 3/8s of an inch or so deep.

That looks like it was done by an inexperienced grader operator.

Now that you mention it, i did see a beat up grader sitting at the Warehouse restaurant. Theres no way a private individual would be legally permitted to work on a state road, is there?

If this road has been tarred and chipped multiple times that could also lead to it. The ruts are created by more weight pressing it down and the center doesn't get driven on as much.

This thread kind of slipped my mind after reading it. In my state, private contractors do everything from paving and grading to mowing. SO I looked it up for Pa.

From Penndot's website:
Quote:
Most new highway and bridge construction as well as large-scale repaving projects on PennDOT's state-owned transportation system are done by private contractors, who are awarded contracts following a public bidding process. PennDOT construction engineers and inspectors oversee the
work done by private contractors.
