This Panighetti dude is just another fine upstanding citizen of the second ward. Arson, drugs, Insurance fraud, 48 guns in his possession, a convicted felon. (among other rumored crimes) How many more people like this are hiding in plain sight here in Bradford? (at least Goblin is easier to spell) Like i have said, im sure glad im not raising kids here.

The rumors "on the street" are that this guy was a "fence" for stolen property for the past four or five years. Somebody even said that the cops were watching him for that long.

This leads to two questions. One, why didn't the cops step in earlier ..... before he could accumulate 48 weapons, and run a multi year long fencing operation? And two, how many more thugs just like this do we have in that neighborhood, or other neighborhoods all around Bradford?

Oh, and to sound like a broken record ...... Where is the neighborhood watch? And when is the public meeting about the exploding houses?

Im not sure about the "Fence" rumors Stony, nothing was mentioned in todays Era about that, but if Panighetti was also a fence, that would have fueled a vicious circle of drug related crime, that would both endanger hardworking citizens by exposing them to ne'er-do-wells sliding through aunt Mabels kitchen window to steal her valuables for drug money, and also would provide a money source for the wastrels continued drug use, not to mention the continued toll it would take on Bradfords youth population. I would hope something like this would be nipped in the bud immediately for everyones sake. I think the state police fire marshall probably stumbled onto this guy during his arson investigation last year and possibly tipped our department that he was into "other" things as well. But thats just my theory.

An article in todays Bradford Era has this guy arraigned for DUI for driving under the influence of Morphine, possession of drug parphenalia, and three counts of receiving stolen property. In addition, he also had 39 counts of illegal weapons possession.

Trailguy, I didn't think it was city government's responsibility to set up the neighborhood watch. I thought that was a city resident's responsibility, and that it was only coordinated with city government to some small amount. Why would the Mayor be responsible? I think the problem is not enough volunteers for the neighborhood watch to man shifts to do it. I could be wrong, and i'm sure citizen will tell me so if I am. Rightly so!

Trailguy, it pains me to say this, but things have probably slid too far in my neighborhood for a conventional neighborhood watch to work here. When the majority of occupants in a neighborhood are apathetic, have something to hide, are on welfare, or are the criminals, its pretty hard to form a telephone chain or a network of concerned citizens. In fact, the ratio of ne'erdowells to regular citizens is so high down here, they have actually formed the antitheseis of a neighborhood watch. Standard equipment in every slum hovel is a police scanner, when you ad this to increased response time from Smethport, and a skeleton crew of police on the night shift,(why is this?) many times the perps have already been warned by someone in the "hood watch" before the police arrive. The icing on the cake for the working taxpayer is when they put the name of the caller over the scanner so the perps instantly know who called. The last piece of this twisted little role reversal puzzle, is that Mayor Tom is tired of hearing complaints about crime, and is tired of mediating between the police and the citizens, and may be in a state of denial. This creates a situation where the taxpayer is viewed as a nuisance more so than the crime itself. The tail "wags the dog". I dont know about the more upscale neighborhoods, but forget about quality of life issues down here. Whether it is in the form of a neighborhood watch, or just an admission that we have a serious problem in parts, or all of the city, I would like to see the authorities come forward and make the taxpayers feel that the city is working for them to clean up the city, and not the other way around. The concensus around town is that the powers that be just didnt have their hearts in the neighborhood watch program, or there were forces at work who didnt want it to happen. For citizens to get a network like this up and running on their own, would require the full support and cooperation of the mayor and police department. From talking to regular people all over town, there needs to be a window opened, and a lot of sunshine cast onto this problem, the sooner the better.
