Well, if there's a team that I really don't like, it's the arrogant Yankees. Go Phils.

So the Yankees won again. Big surprise. Best team money can buy.
But, the Phillies were not playing their best last weekend, I was royally pissed. Howard and Rollins were just taking their bats for walk!
I am trying real hard to appreciate that they got this far, and I know they feel even worse than me, but it's so damned heartbreaking.
Plus, I really don't think the umps were calling the strike zone fairly last night. This happened in a couple other games as well.
And that home run off the camera?! Sorry, that should have been a double. If it hits a pole, a rail or a fan interferes, it's a double, I don't see what camera should have been any different.
Evidently, my husband heard that Manuel was told that if a ball hit that camera it would be HR, I don't know why he didn't have the stadium move it!
Oh, well, we have next year.

3. Chicago Cubs 134,058,500
4. Boston 122,435,399
5. Detroit 119,160,145
6. LA Angels 118,964,000
7. Seattle 112,053,666
8. Philadelphia 111,209,046
9. Houston 102,996,414
10. Chicago Sox 100,598,500
11. LA Dodgers 100,008,592
12. Atlanta 94,313,666
13. St. Louis 87,703,409
14. San Francisco 82,616,450
15. Kansas City 81,384,553
16. Milwaukee 80,182,502
17. Cincinnati 73,558,500
18. Arizona 73,516,666
19. Texas 73,439,238
20. Toronto 72,563,200
21. Colorado 72,428,000
22. Tampa Bay 68,230,934
23. Minnesota 67,634,766
24. Cleveland 66,757,366
25. Washington 62,001,000
26. Baltimore 61,885,566
27. Oakland 56,089,250
28. San Diego 37,800,800
29. Florida 35,774,000
30. Pittsburgh 25,197,000
Should there be a salary cap?
The Phillies had a great year, but limped along with their pitching staff. As Derek Jeter said in the latest issue of SI, "pitching, pitching, pitching!" Then there is the ever-present DH issue. A hitter like Matsui who gets XXX at-bats in the AL as a DH would never want to sit on the bench in the NL as a pinch hitter.

We did indeed limp along with pitching. And Rollins and Howard were fielding well, but not hitting anything! Every time one of them got up to bat, struck out or walked.
I don't know about a salary cap, but the fact is if a club as more money than the others they can buy better talent. I just don't understand why the Phillies always seem to be so cheap when it comes to getting good pitchers.
But, I also think that ALL ball players or immensely overpaid for basically making a living at a game.

Philly,
The Phillies are number 8 on the salary chart. The Yankees are off the chart. They spent something like 273.5 million last year to sign 3 new players (1st baseman and 2 pitchers)! Crazy.
Unfortunately great pitchers are hard to come by, and they command top $. The Yankees set the salary bar.

So, basically, you'd agree that the Yankees can BUY a title? (Besides the umpires who need to be shot sometimes.)

Hey, Philly!! Did you buy one of those "Phillies Two Time World Series Champion" shirts that they were trying to sell after only a couple of games? It should be worth a lot of money some day. Like the "Dewey beats Truman" newspapers.

Ovation, they should have been rolls of toilet paper, not shirts! LOL!
