What is the city of Bradford waiting for to pave? The dirt roads in the national forest are much smoother than city streets. How about the mass blight demolitions? Maybe we are waiting for Edna to pay her back debts to the city? (or for the city to collect them...)

Doesn't "paving season" start in the spring?

I've said this before and I'll say this again ......

One, I "explore" the ANF very often, many times I'm riding the dirt roads several times a week. There are DIRT roads in the national forest that are smoother than the paved roads in Bradford. I can ride the dirt roads in the forest all day long, and when I come back into Bradford, onto the "paved roads", it feels more like I'm "off road"! LOL! Strange, but true!

And two, I sometimes travel "out of the area" and when I do, and head in ANY compass direction away from Bradford, the roads almost immediately get better! Why is it that *everywhere else* has the ability to maintain their roads better than the overtaxed city of Bradford?

'You would think' more of our excessive tax contributions would go for maintaining infrastructure and running the city properly and less would go to lining somebodies pockets. "Follow the money" ..... there's got to be money for roads somewhere.

I dont know about that. The part of 86 that the Seneca nation is on is pretty bad right now.

According to todays Era, Forman street will be paved before the Italian fest. Still a long way to go from there. The question that i hear all the time is, will they get the manholes and drain grates level with the roads when they pave? These are almost as dangerous as rough roads, as you have to swerve into oncoming traffic to miss them. I have never driven anywhere else where this is such a problem.

"Paving in City to begin soon" was todays Era headline. It sounds like waiting too long to get bids will abreviate the citys paving schedule, and make it hard to get competitive bids. If i were the Best Western and Comfort inn Hotels, I would be raising Hell with the city for not including the critical gateway section of Elm street from U.S. Rt 219 to their facilities. This short section of Elm street between Chestnut street and Davis street is one of the worst in the city, and afterall, their new competition across town is getting that gateway from the 219 done... Im sure everything above East main street is equally as bad as the majority of streets here in "little Beruit" but what happened to common sense? Hell, for that matter, dont tell me they would pave those upper side streets without first doing the "buckboard" section of East main from East avenue to Kendall ave? Unbelievable, The city of Bradford should be ashamed of their fiscal irresponsibility and p*ss poor planning. Originally all of this paving was to be completed this year, now we can torture our vehicles for three more years while we again trail every other community and both townships with our "capital improvements"?

And BTW, how can the townships like Foster, with their tax millage being one fourth of Bradfords and having half the population, afford to pave major projects like the entire length of Harrisburg run, or Seaward avenue from Bolivar drive all the way to the state line? This just points to Bradfords lack of fiscal responsibility. Maybe Sara Andrews should be Bradfords mayor, or its City Clerk, at least she gets money and gets things done. (Some say she is really the mayor...)

Maybe what I saw on West Corydon Street was an experiment ..... "Paving the streets with dirty scank-ho undergarments"! It might be cheaper and easier to lay down than regular asphalt, and it fits the character of the neighborhood better!

In our case, no. My husband hit a pothole on Congress Street because people have no idea how to drive on their own side of the road and blew out our rear brake lines. Thankfully, we already had another vehicle lined up and don't have to fix that one. Off to the junkyard it goes.

Just this afternoon I was in a downtown business and a Canadian attending the Case swap meet suddenly announced, "You people need to raise your taxes and get your streets fixed!" I replied, "They're already sky high, and if they'd stop frittering away our money on frivolous projects, they could be!"

And he was probably just driving down our main roads, not even rounding the corner on Pine Street...

I did race dirt bikes when I was much younger. Many years ago. But in my mid-age years I switched to riding mostly street bikes.

Having said that, I'm considering entering the Baja 1000 off road race. I wonder if the refinery would sponsor me?

My "off road race training" and experience comes from riding on Bradford city's roads! I've been in intense training for the past several years and just realized it! Just bopping around town, paying bills, and shopping for groceries!

The Baja course CAN'T be as bad as Bradford's roads!

Here's my question .... which is worse, Bradford's scummer problem or the pathetic condition of our streets?

Better off scraping the pavement off and just grading the dirt underneath.
