Drilling Wastewater Examined in Ohio Quakes
Quote:
There have been 11 quakes in less than 10 months in the Youngstown area, which is home to a deep well used for injecting a byproduct of expanded shale drilling. The well operation was shut down last week.

I said this would happen HOW MANY YEARS AGO NOW?

Europe banned fracking in some countries because of earthquakes. Arkansas stopped fracking because of hundreds of earthquakes. And now Ohio. I believe the one we felt last year out of Md. was caused by fracking a ways away from the epicenter (the way tectonics work sometimes).

My prediction for later this year- more earthquakes in the Dimmock area, as well as the rest of the state related to the Marcellus and Utica shale regions.

Here is an NPR discussion about the Arkansas earthquakes (some 700!):

And here is an article about the Ohio earthquakes:

Ohio Earthquakes Caused By Drilling Wastewater Well, Expert Says
(the wastewater is Fracking Fluids)

How many years ago did I say this was going to happen? Guitar, Citizen ..... tell them how long I've been warning about this!

Yet another thing I didn't really want to be right about!

Europe is way ahead of us!

Predicting the Size of Fracking Earthquakes

Actually the science comes from here (California), but it's not "talked about" here!

They can predict how big the earthquake related to how may cubic feet of fluid they put in the ground! They have a formula worked out!

Stony, you know my feeling on fracing. I agree it is a bad thing. I know that you have for a LONG time been saying that bad things can come from it. You were definately correct on water table/streams/potable water damage from it. But, you will have to go back through your posts and prove to me where you said it will cause earthquakes. I do NOT remember that.

When I get the time I will go back and find my earliest post about it, but I know I've been talking about the earthquake dangers for at least two years now.

It's very basic science. You can't put THAT much fluid under THAT much pressure in the ground (after blowing up and cracking the surrounding rock) and expect that nothing will happen.

Just like putting millions of gallons of poisons into the ground will cause poisons to be in the ground (and our water tables!).

Yet some people (all the drillers!) claim that putting poisons into the ground don't poison the ground!

We have millions and millions of examples of it all across the country!

.......................Let the lawsuits begin!

PS- in 2012, "the year of the protests", all the truth will come out! The Oilarchy should be very scared! The people will not tolerate earthquakes, polluted air, and undrinkable water! Their game is about to end soon!

"Fracking" will be stopped or highly regulated in 2012!

Not to mention that WE THE PEOPLE will not tolerate OUR gas going to China! ESPECIALLY when they told us they were harvesting this hard to get gas to make us less dependent on foreign oil!

"Fool us once, shame on us. F*ck us over twice .... we'll see you in court".

Hey investors ....... watch your oil and gas stocks plummet this year!

Not calling you a liar, just don't remember that KIND of post. I'll await your research!

Check this out!

"Injection wells have also been suspected in quakes in Ashtabula in far northeast Ohio, and in Arkansas, Colorado, and Oklahoma, Armbruster said".

Found at:

Ohio Earthquakes Caused By Drilling Wastewater Well, Expert Says

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/0 ... lp00000009

Also check out the video near the bottom that has some great photos and a story about what happened in Oklahoma!

They went from 1 minor earthquake per year over 20 years to 95 per year and just had the strongest one ever (suspected to be caused by fracking)!

And at the end of the story the news reporter mentions the impending lawsuits! She describes the oil drillers as wounded fish and talks about an impending "feeding frenzy" by a bunch of sharks.

I can see the possibility of this premise being true. But I think the lawsuits are going to be a different matter. I think it will be very difficult to prove this in court.
