I have in my hand the November 1976 issue of National Geographic Vol 150 No. 5. (I save it for dealing with loons)
On the cover it asks what is happening to our climate. Inside, it gets a little interesting.
On starter page 576 it is claimed that the Earth is COOLING rapidly and that we were probably headed into the global deep-freeze. The whole damned next 40 pages or so prove such!
A whole bevy of global climate weather experts testified and data explain such is so and there are even photos of the polar ice shelves that are EXPANDING.
Clearly the discussion just 45 years ago was that the BIG FREEZE is coming!! WFT???
C'mon guys. The issue has ALWAYS been what role man and carbon emissions play in this. The Earth has always cycled back and forth over millenial time. Carbon dioxide levels have been all over the chart over billions of years.
To claim that there is proof of Global Warming and Man surely is at fault is a fool's errand.
(The Greeks called it hubris?)
There is only one thing for certain. That Al Gore is an idiot, but has made millions promoting carbon credits and such. What a buffoon. He has the carbon footprint of eight hundred men.
Go ahead, check the NG issue out and get ready to freeze your ass off looking at the pictures.

It's a good thing that the rest of the world doesn't use 35 year old information to influence it's thinking. Let's see, sophisticated weather satellites, computers, advances in geological science, obvious scientific measurements should have no effect on one's opinion of what is happening to the earth seems to be what you are saying.

That said, it is easy for me to agree with those who say that global warming exists. It is NOT easy for me to agree with the fact that man is necessarily the primary (Or even secondary) cause.
It is also easy for me to agree that Al Gore is an idiot, global warming notwithstanding.

The National Geographic issue was highlighted by dramatic photos by NOAA weather satellites. From a quote: National Geographic page 582 Nov 1976 Vol 150 No.5

"During the past billion years less than a quarter of the earth's age, there have been at least 4 epochs of ice covering major portions of the globe. We are still living in the fourth one". The whole issue deals with the UNCERTAINTY of the causes and cyclical nature of warming-cooling.

My point is simply that nobody knows and that there have been periods where cooling and warming periods have been extreme and disastrous all without the factor of human habitation. Too bad it has been politicized beyond rational thought.

This has all taken place millions and millions and millions of years before the first one of us climbed out of the African rift and fired up his waiting 10mpg Escalade starting the wholesale destruction.

We just don't know. One thing for certain: Al Gore and his climate buddies have need an enema for a long time. Has anybody heard from that miscreant lately? Nope-MARGINALIZED!
