We will do a "Halloween Hike" on Sunday, Oct 31st on Halloween!
It will be to the Marilla Reservoir where we will first hike part of the Marilla Bridges Trail (with one covered bridge), then to the Marilla Springs Trail, and finally to the White Pine Trail that leads to the stand of old-growth, virgin White Pine trees. And since it's Halloween, I will lead the group to the old "Burned Out Tree", a bit "off the beaten path", it's somewhat secret and the coolest attraction at Marilla. And as if the scary "Burned out Tree" isn't scary enough, we will hike the rest of the White Pine loop through a real scary "Halloween" looking woods back to the Marilla Bridges trail.
The whole hike will be about 3 miles and it will be *mostly* on trail (except for the excursion to the Burned out Tree), and the trail is easy to moderate. However, the upper part of the White Pine Trail loop is not so flat (lots of roots) and there is a 'moderate to steep' climb. But I've seen many a white-haired old lady do this hike with no problem. I'm trying to be more accurate in my hike descriptions since in the past I've been accused of understating the difficulty of some hikes.
To make the hike more fun, I thought some or all of us could dress up for Halloween! Wear whatever you want, that is easy enough, and safe enough to hike in! Remember, there is no Sunday hunting in Pa! But those too bashful to dress up for Halloween, can just go as a "hiker" or "outdoorsperson", maybe just hiking boots and a walking stick!
I was hoping enough would dress up for a really cool group picture for the trip report!
We will meet at the Marilla Reservoir at NOON! Sharp! 12 noon, so some of the "far away" or "church" people can make this fun hike! And since it's only 3 miles we will be done fairly early in the day, perhaps between 3 and 4PM, plenty of time to get back home for trick or treating!
You should wear waterproof boots or hiking shoes for this hike as we may encounter some mud spots, and we have to do one (very small) creek crossing. And bring your cameras as there is a lot to see on this hike, including the stand of virgin White Pine trees, the "King of the Marilla Giants" and "Miss Marilla" two of the biggest giant White Pine trees, as well as several old trees of various species, the burned out tree, and several wooden bridges (6 or 7) of various configurations, and plenty of wildlife (maybe even bear!). And bring snacks for the rest breaks! I'll bring some Halloween candy!
Hope you can make this fun hike! Trick or treat! BOO!
PS- I can do some Halloween face painting if you want to meet me early.

How old is too old for trick-or-treating? Mayor Mark Eckhert of Belleville, Ill., says he's heard a ton of complaints. His solution: To create an ordinance banning anyone over the age of 12—from trick-or-treating. What do you think? Should overage kids be legally banned from trick-or-treating? And how old is too old for trick-or-treating?

Just more government interference where they have NO business interfering! What's next, no one over 12 can have Christmas presents?? (Hey!! That's a GREAT idea come to think of it!!!)

Hey! I dress up and go out every year! BUT I'm usually just accompanying kids, not collecting candy.
Everytime I go to walmart (year round mind you), I always see somebody dressed for halloween! I feel like carrying some halloween candy all year long to hand out on such occations!
I don't mind kids up to High School age trick or treating. But the young adults or older adults is just plain pathetic. Especially when they are doing it just for the candy rather than dressing up for fun.

My brother calls the phenomenon of "Harley guys" that dress up in their leather chaps. doo rags (SP?) and other accessories, 'Halloween for old men'. I have to agree with him on that one.

LOL! Some of them need to go to a surgeon and have their arms lengthened (on OUR dime no doubt!) so they have room for even more tattoos! LOL!

Why would Stony have to "dress up?" He's scary enough in person! (He seems to have women running away from him according to some of his past posts.) LOL!!!

Hey Citizen, there's no age limit for dressing up for Halloween. Last year there was 6 of us that went camping in State park (sugar Bush), in fact it was our 20th year of going there. It was for 5 days, and was over Halloween. We dressed up, carved pumpkins, walked around the loop to the other camps, which were all filled. The weather was beautiful.
