Well, I for one would sure prefer possibly hurting my foot, over being smashed to death and my body being torn up, and not recognizable.
But that is just me! Thank God (and mostly the democrats) for a bigger government, and more, and better regulations, that resulted in far less auto accident deaths, and far less severe injuries.
Ron Paul: "seatbelts-GONE!, crash tests-GONE!, speed limits-GONE!, car inspections-GONE! windshields-GONE!, brakes-GONE"!
The Republican mantra: "safety and health regulations puts too much of a burden on industry. Profits over people"!!!!!

Yeah Stony, and you probably like those safety switches on circular saws and tractor mowers, and things like anti-lock brakes on cars (that take twice the stopping distance than regular brakes) How did we ever survive before we had bureaucracies to protect us from ourselves and idiot-proof everything we touch. I ate lead paint, never wore seat belts, (most older cars never had them, or they lived under the seats) no padded dashes, no "pollution control" (ever follow a modern vehicle up a hill? they stink to high heaven) no bicycle helmets etc. How did we ever survive!? I had a friend with a 57 Cadillac that weighed at least 5000 pounds and had a huge V-8 in it. even in need of a tune up, it got 23 miles to the gallon. Technology is our enemy in more ways than our friend, and over regulation will never be my friend. Oh yeah, that reminds me of a car crash i was in in the early eighties. A Ford Festiva hit me head-on in my 66 Plymouth Fury. The Festiva was totaled with the engine in the front seat, I drove my Plymouth home with a broken headlight and not much else damaged. I will take my chances in the classic and hope you are not coming at me in the new car...

Some related info; [b][i]Under certain circumstances you want ABS off or disabled, as it dramatically increases stopping distances which can be very dangerous.
For example...having ABS enabled on an offroading truck is a bad idea, as you're dealing with hill climbs, loose gravel, and deep mud. It's very difficult to stop an ABS truck when descending a steep hill with loose gravel or deep mud.
Many winter accidents occur when people can't stop in time, and ABS increases stopping distances in deep snow. This would be another scenario where you'd want it disabled. and this; http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2006/0 ... isk-by-51/

This must be one of those regulatory agencies Stoney was referring to;
Quote:
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has a mission: “Save lives, prevent injuries, reduce vehicle-related crashes.” NHTSA also commits itself to “providing the most accurate and complete information available to its customers, the American traveling public.” While NHTSA’s progress towards its stated goals is (and always will be) a matter of debate, the agency has failed us. They’ve failed to tell the truth about ABS.
