I might see this at a historical site in PA, where a standard & narrow gauge RR ran side-by-side. This would have been a low(er)-population area at the time of the image on the photo (same kind or depot you would have seen in Eldred, Lewis Run, Port A, Ceres... Or in any small town along the upper Allegheny river.

As for this specific one--not a clue!

I think a solid clue lies in Stonys post somewhere. Good observation Whodude, but i believe you may be seeing a 6 foot gauge line compared to a standard gauge. Even though its not the one pictured, the Erie's mainline was 6 foot gauge until sometime in the 1870s?

Upon closer inspection it might even be a 6 foot gauge and a narrow gauge.
