Pitt-Bradford creates $1,000 book grant for members of Seneca Nation

BRADFORD, Pa. The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has created a $1,000 book award for new students who are members of the Seneca Nation of Indians, which also can be added to any other merit scholarship they may receive.

The book award is for new incoming students who enroll full-time at Pitt-Bradford and provide documentation of their Seneca Nation membership.
“We are reaching out to our neighbors in the Seneca Nation with this new award,” said James Baldwin, vice president for enrollment management. “We hope this award as well as our other merit awards will help them in their pursuit of the prestigious University of Pittsburgh degree.”

The new $1,000 book award — $500 each semester toward the purchase of books and supplies in Pitt-Bradford’s Panther Shop — will be added to any other merit awards for which students may be eligible. For example, members of the Seneca Nation who live in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua or Erie counties are eligible for the Go Beyond NYS Award, which enables them to pay standard Pennsylvania tuition of $12,452 instead of the higher out-of-state tuition of $23,268.

“This book scholarship is another way we can help students afford the quality education they will receive at Pitt-Bradford,” Baldwin added.

Both the new book award and any other merit awards are renewable each year for up to four years as long as students maintain eligibility.
