McCabe to read at Olean Public Library

1pitt-nmcabe_optBRADFORD, Pa. — Dr. Nancy McCabe, director of the writing program at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, will discuss and read from her work next week at the Olean (N.Y.) Public Library.

McCabe will talk about her most recent book, From Little Houses to Little Women: Revisiting a Literary Childhood work at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at the library, which is located at 134 North 2nd St., Olean, N.Y.

During the summer of 2015, she presented talks and excerpts from the book at the International Children’s Literature Association Conference in Richmond, Va., and was a featured speaker at Laura Ingalls Wilder and Maud Hart Lovelace conferences in Brookings, S.D., and Mankato, Minn.

McCabe is a prolific artist with celebrated essays included in three anthologies published this year, “A Pink Suitcase: 22 Tales of Women’s Travel,” “Oh, Baby! True Stories about Conception, Adoption, Surrogacy, Pregnancy, Labor and Love,” and “Every Father’s Daughter: 24 Women Writers Remember their Fathers.”

“A Pink Suitcase,” edited by Janna Graber, will be published Nov. 2 includes McCabe’s essay “Threads,” which was first published in the Fall 2011 issue of the literary magazine Prairie Schooner.

Publishers Weekly gave special mention to McCabe’s essay in its review of “Oh Baby,” which was published this month. The essay, “The Baby Room,” is about returning with her teenage daughter to the village in China where her daughter was born. The essay also appeared as a preview of the anthology at Littsburgh: Celebrating Literary Pittsburgh.

McCabe is also the author of four full-length memoirs, most recently “From Little Houses to Little Women: Revisiting a Literary Childhood,” which is about the influence of classic children’s literature on childhood imagination and the way that landscapes and imagination intertwine.
