Operating Deficit Necessitates Closure of The Salvation Army Kane Thrift Store

With operating costs outpacing revenues, The Bradford Salvation Army has made the difficult decision to close the Thrift Store located at 28 Fraley Street in Kane. Local residents will have until November 15th to buy second-hand goods before the store officially closes its doors.

The Thrift store opened with the intent of providing a service to the community while raising
necessary funds for essential Salvation Army programs and services for those in the most need.
This includes over 44,000 instances of service such as food, shelter, emergency utility assistance and youth programming provided at The Bradford Salvation Army for Bradford residents last year alone.

“The need continues to rise,” said Lieutenant Shane Carter, Commanding Officer of the Bradford
Salvation Army. “The decision to close the store is based on the Thrift Store’s continuing financial
instability. The store has been losing money, and we in The Salvation Army would rather be helping people with food, clothing, etc.; and that is how we will use our donor dollars and serve the people in greatest need.” Lt. Carter explains.

Both a church and a social service organization, The Salvation Army began in London, England in 1865. Today, it provides critical services in 126 countries worldwide. The 28-county Western Pennsylvania Division serves thousands of needy families through a wide variety of support services.
