Marjorie B. Newton, 92, formerly of Mt. Jewett, passed away Wednesday (May 21, 2014) at Bradford Manor.
Born June 19, 1921, in Summerville, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Olive White Sherman. On May 17, 1941, in Knapp Creek, NY, she married Henry Newton who preceded her in death in 2002.
Mrs. Newton had been employed as a seamstress.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mt. Jewett, the Oilers P39 Camping Club and the Seneca Highlands Trailer Club.
Surviving are two sons, William Newton of Decatur, AL and Raymond Newton of Arcade, NY; two daughters, Sandra Norton of Ormond Beach, FL and Virginia White of Salisbury, NC; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by two brothers, Curtis L. Sherman and Edward R. Sherman and three sisters, F. Laurella Neatherlin, Lauraine McMillen and Mary E. Rupert.
Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Mt. Jewett Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Funeral services will follow at the United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. W. Craig Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Bridgeville Cemetery.
