Nelson, Virgil C.

Virgil C. Nelson, 81, of 15 Church Street in Ludlow, died Thursday afternoon, May 8, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born September 22, 1932 in Kane, he was the son of Frank E. and Hannah C. Freeburg Nelson. On June 25, 1955 in Kane, he married Carol “Jean” Scott, who survives.
Mr. Nelson served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, discharged as corporal.
He was a banker for 38 years for the former Warren National Bank in Sheffield, then Kane, and finally Warren, retiring as comptroller.
A member of Moriah Lutheran Church in Ludlow, Virgil sang in the choir and served as its janitor for some time. He also belonged to the American Legion in Ludlow.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Scott (Barb) Nelson of Kane; grandchildren Rob Nelson, Brandon Nelson, Ryan Wilson, Megan Haight, Adam Wilson and Ashley Wilson; and great grandchildren Aubrie, Lexie and Addison Haight, Emmah, Ben, Madyson and Jack Wilson, and John and Breeze Nelson.
He is preceded in death, besides his parents, by a daughter Cindy Wilson in 1999 and two daughters in infancy; brothers Reynold and Robert Nelson, and sisters Margaret Bloomquist Price and Marie Larson.
Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 on Monday at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane, and may attend a funeral service at Moriah Lutheran Church on Tuesday at 1:00 with the rev. Bill Waterman, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Gibbs Hill Cemetery, Ludlow.
Memorial contributions may be made to a church or charity of the donor’s choice.
