Fireman’s Association Gets $750,000 DHS Grant

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) today announced that the Department of Homeland Security has awarded a more than $750,000 Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant to the Fireman’s Association of the State of Pennsylvania (FASP). Sen. Toomey wrote a letter of support on behalf of the organization’s grant application in October 2013.

“I’m pleased to announce this federal grant for the Fireman’s Association of the State of Pennsylvania,” said Sen. Toomey. “I am confident that these funds will aid the FASP in its efforts to improve the safety, training, and staffing of firefighters across our great Commonwealth.”

As a statewide organization, the FASP supports all fire companies and firefighters that serve Pennsylvania residents. The FASP plans on using the SAFER Grant to train firefighters, increase compliance with safety recommendations, and improve fire protections for Pennsylvania communities.

“On behalf of the FASP we are excited to receive a SAFER Grant to help fire companies throughout the Commonwealth in recruiting new members and re-training existing members. This will support programs essential to the continuation of our vitally important volunteer emergency response system. We are thankful for the support of Sen. Toomey and his staff in this process,” said Larry Baughman, Secretary of the FASP.
