Literary luncheon (March 29) to discuss Lindbergh book ‘Gift from the Sea’

BRADFORD, Pa. — One Book Bradford and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Women’s History Committee are sponsoring the “Gift from the Sea” Literary Luncheon March 29 at Pitt-Bradford

The luncheon will take place at 11:30 a.m. in the Mukaiyama University Room of the Frame-Westerberg Commons. Tickets are $10 for the public and free for Pitt-Bradford students and may be obtained at the Bradford Area Public Library or the Office of Student Affairs at Pitt-Bradford. Proceeds benefit One Book Bradford.

Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal, visit with friends and learn about Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s thoughts on youth and age, love and marriage, and solitude and contentment, as revealed through her beloved classic, “Gift from the Sea.” Leading a brief program will be Carol Newman, a faculty member in the writing program at Pitt-Bradford, and Cheryl Bazzoui and Patricia Shinaberger, co-chairwomen of the One Book Bradford Committee.

“A Gift from the Sea” was a groundbreaking work when it was originally published in 1955, and new generations of readers continue to discover it. The presenters will share a few excerpts from this beloved book and provide fresh insights into Lindbergh’s reflections on life, love, relationships and the enduring importance of finding a space for self-reflection and contemplation.

The luncheon is one in a series of One Book Bradford events leading up to the May 13 visit of Melanie Benjamin, the author of “The Aviator’s Wife, One Book Bradford’s selected book for 2013-2014.
