Member of Pitt-Bradford faculty to give piano recital

BRADFORD, Pa. – John Liberatore, visiting assistant professor of music at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, will give a Noon Tunes piano recital Friday.

The recital, which will take place at noon in the Studio Theater in Blaisdell Hall, will feature the works of Bach, Haydn and Beethoven, including Beethoven’s famous “Grand Sonata Pathetique.” It will also include song transcriptions of classical and contemporary artists such as Debussy, Fanny Mendelssohn, Melody Gardot and Gershwin.

Liberatore is a composer and pianist living in Southern New York state. Described as “enchanting” by the Boston Classical Review, his works have been performed at venues around the world, such as the International Viola Congress, the Hindemith Centre, the American Cultural Institute of Peru, and the Four Seasons Centre of Toronto.

This November, a new dramatic work, commissioned by the Washington National Opera, will premiere at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Other recent and upcoming engagements include collaborations with Dinosaur Annex, Third Coast Percussion, and the Finnish chamber ensemble Trio Ramifications.

He is the recipient of a 2011 Tanglewood composer’s fellowship, an ASCAP Morton Gould Award, invitations from the I-Park Artist’s Enclave, the Brush Creek Arts Foundation, the MusicX Festival, and the Bowdoin Music Festival, and a 2012 Presser Music Award, which funded an extended residency in Tokyo, Japan. As a pianist, he performs regularly in a variety of styles and settings. As both a soloist and collaborative pianist, he has appeared in venues around the United States. He holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and Syracuse University.
